LW8 fan-fiction: TIME TO HEAD TO LEAGUE WARS: BIRTHDAY BASH

By Highlander 21107

“I still can’t believe this new shuttle configuration. I think if we shared this with the world, it would be phenomenal,: said Ricochet.

“This may give us a tactical advantage down the road,” Highlander responded. “There;s no doubt. Catalyst is a genius. Only on television and movies could you dream of something that;s bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. Big Brain calls it a ‘tesseract.’”

“Sure is something, I warrant,” Ric acknowledged. “By the way, Fiona seems out of sorts today.”

Highlander looked at him and smiled, :More than usual, you mean?”

“Aye.”

“She’ll be okay. She’s a good soldier; she’ll do her part. She’s just upset with me league mates. She didn’t feel they did enough to help me when that Morphon overdose.”

“Women,” said Ric, somewhat hesitatingly.

“Aye, lad. Women. Get ye used to it; plenty more where that came from.”

“I don’t mean to be nosy, but I’ve never heard of a Morphon overdose, meself.:

“Dunno, lad,” Highlander answered. “Tis a mystery for sure.”

The new shuttle flew much more smoothly than the old one the MacGregors had used in the past. Once Highlander presented the evaluation of its capabilities, then Chained Angel would have some different, and tough, decisions to make. No doubt that construction on the others would be accelerated, but what then. Turn plans and tech over to BADGE? Sell plans and tech to other leagues? It could be a real boon to crime fighting, but when resources are becoming scarce, one had to consider one’s position and enhancing it was always a priority.

“Mr. MacGregor, I’m not sure I understand League Wars entirely. What’s it about?”

Highlander sighed, “First of all, Ric. No more ‘Mister, got it? If we’re to function to as equals, ye need to address me as ‘Highlander’ or ‘Duncan,’ or even ‘Cain.’ Forget the ‘Mister.’”

“I can do that, but there’s no way I can call Fiona by her name. It wouldn’t be right. Just not right.”

“She can be a bit intimidating, aye”?

Ric nodded his head.

“Fine,” Highlander said. “Mr.s MacGregor it is. Ric, League Wars is non-lethal combat to keep us sharp and on our toes. It’s tough; it’s grueling. It’ll beat ye down.”

“I don’t know if I’m up to it.”

“You’ll be fine, laddie. You’ll be fine.”

“And, your first test will happen when we arrive,” said Fiona as she came into the cabin. You’re scheduled for an interview with Chaz Hamilton. You’re a unique person. We don’t know of anyone with a power like yours. You might say, you’re a featured attraction this go-round.”

“Great. The freak show continues,” Ric moaned.

“Tell Ric about your first time at LW, Fiona,” Highlander said.

“My only experience with LW has been as a spectator, Duncan. You know that:

“Forgot.”

Fiona shook her head. “Men,” she muttered.

Highlander winked at Ric, and the that put the young man at ease for the first time on the trip.

Highlander said, “Three battles against the different teams over five days. Day of battle; day of rest. Repeat times two. Fairly simple, you take down each team’s combatants as best you can. Don’t know the matchups, yet.”

“Sounds intimidating,” Ric said.

“As intimidating as Fiona?”

Ric grunted, “Nothing is as intimidating as Fi – Mrs. MacGregor.”

Highlander called to Fiona, “Buckle up, buttercup.” we’re here. Time to land this sucker and give the operations report to Chained Angel and go to our quarters.”
