Night Terror
The lastAtlas Crisis was a Movement Crisis. That means if you built a movement deck you want to choose that one in your Hero Deck page we showed last week. If you built only one deck to cover them all then you are already good to go.
When the Atlas starts (At 3am EST on August 3rd in this case), a red bar will appear at the top of the home page, just like we just saw on the gauntlet attacks. When you enter the Atlas Crisis screen you will have a splashy section at the top that lets you know what type it is, how long you have to complete it, and how much damage the community has to do collectively to attain rewards.
Down below will be a set of cards.
These cards are your hero deck and you can click on them to activate it. To the right of that will be an explanation of the type of Crisis (Attack, Defense, Movement) and what extra things you can do to make those cards in your deck stronger. As a newbie, there is a good possibility that you won't have these items to make things stronger, but they are good to note in case you do.
OK, you clicked on the deck, and now 3 cards have popped up that you can choose from. You will go through 15 rounds with a full deck, 3 cards popping up in each round (45 total). When the first three pop up, you will want to look at the stats of each card. We know this is a movement crisis, so we want the card with the strongest movement (The green number on the far right of the card).
Of those 3 cards which has the highest? Once you choose that card, they go away and the next 3 cards pop up. Choose the highest movement stat again and continue doing so until you are out of cards for this deck.
Now, you may have noticed that the Atlas uses both Battle charges and Energy charges to play. This is unusual as most activities require one or the other, but this one is special. Each time you click the deck to activate it, you use 5 battle charges from the top of your screen. If you have the maxed-out 14 battle charges, that means you can only play 2 times before you have to wait for the battle to regain one more point so you can play again.
Since this also uses Energy, every time you click a chosen card with the highest stat, it uses 3 energy to do. If you only have 15 energy, you can only click on cards 5 times before you have to refill your energy (And you have 15 round in a deck, so you need at least 3 energy refills to play a full deck).
In a previous Newbie Guide, I told you how to make friends and send gifts. This is one of the places that lesson comes in handy. If you have been sending gifts every day and receiving gifts from your friends, you probably have a lot of energy and battle refills. You can use up to 16 More-Fun bars to refill your energy a day and 8 Hatoraides to refill your Fight bar. This resets at Noon EST so you can start refilling again.
You will want to use these throughout the Atlas event.
Now that you have gone through an entire deck, let's go down below and look at your placement on the leaderboard. Since you are brand new, you will most likely be in the lowest division. As you scroll down, on the right you will see what your total damage has been so far. It won't be much at first, but that's ok. Like the turtle, slow and steady can win the race here.
Scroll down further and you will see your list of everyone in your division, what rank they are overall, what is your rank for your division, how much damage you have done, how many hits it took you, and what percentage of the hits you did overall.
You will also see if you are The Platinum winner, a gold winner, silver, or bronze. If you are below the bronze, that means you are out of the "good" rewards brackets, but you will STILL get something for participating. Below the leaderboard will be a list of prizes you get for each level of accomplishment. It does not list the participation rewards, but no one walks away a loser here.
Now here is the really cool part. Regardless of your position on the leaderboard, you are earning "BADGE Points" for every hit you do up to 50 hits. So, if you hit the crisis 50 times, you will get an automatic 50 BADGE Points – I strongly recommend you try to get 50 hits in so you can use the BADGE Points sooner rather than later. Every percentage above that you earn, you will get more BADGE Points.
What the heck are BADGE Points? I am glad you asked!
BADGE Points add up and increase your ranking. You can see this ranking in the Perks section of the game. Go to your My Hero tab and click on Perks; it is right next to your Hero Deck sub-tab.
The Perks sub-tab will show your current ranking, as well as how many points you need to reach the next rank. When you reach a rank, you get a Perk point to spend.
You can see on my list above that I am a rookie, meaning I earned at least 100 points, and I now have 911 points. At 1000 points, I earn a new rank and a new perk. I am almost there!!
Earning Perk Points lets you choose from the list above to get... well... perks. There was an amazing article already written by “The Hanzo Ninja Clan Presents…” on the different perks and what they all do. The article even gave the pros and cons and which perks benefit each type of player. I am not going to go into all that here, but you can read the article at the link below.
So that is your Atlas Crisis in a nutshell. I am sure there are lots of people who have recommendations for the best way to set up their decks, and I hope some of them write an article on their version. This is a Newbie Guide designed to get you started. The veterans of the game might be willing to share their secrets with you on what works for them.
