Starmaster headed into the headquarters of his new league with a sense of pride. It had been a long journey to get to this point, and although he wasn’t anywhere near the end of his journey, the current opportunity was one to be proud of. Being asked to join the Avengers was an honor. With their history of top-notch competition and solid strategies, he hoped to learn and bring some of that back to the Star Force when the team he founded had a roster of equally powerful heroes.
“Welcome, Starmaster,” Zen greeted him alongside of SupeRakly and PhantomAmongPhantoms.
“We’re glad you were able to join our little colony here.”
“Thanks,” Starmaster replied. “I was shocked to get the invite.”
“You’ve done well with the Legacy of Spawn over the past few league wars,” SupeRakly said as he offered his hand to the new recruit. “You’re wins caught our eye. You know how we like wins around here.”
PhantomAmongPhantoms chuckled. “L.O.S. is a solid league, but they struggled to break through that gold ceiling. As you know, the one we’ve smashed a time or two.”
A chime went of on SuperRakly’s comm badge. He spoke into it for a moment quietly. “Seems I have to cut this short. We’ve got a lot of irons in the fire right around league wars. I’m needed elsewhere. I’ll check back in later.”

With that, SuperRakly walked away.
“He’s one busy cape,” Zen said. “So, you’re going to be with us in the Colony51 for League War 9.”
“I thought I got called in to be an Avenger?” Starmaster asked.
“We’re Avengers, but we are Colony 51 too. The name’s not as important and the team, and we’ve got a good team for you to be a part of. I’m going to be on it with you.” Zen said.
“I understand that. I know your two leagues merged a while back,” Starmaster said. “It seems like there has been a lot of shake ups for this league wars. The Horsemen disbanded. The group that left the Avengers 51 and became the Villains Inc. league is going to be fighting instead of retiring. Lots of new lower division leagues. Two new Scottish Claymore leagues sprouting up.”
“Nothing stays the same for long,” Zen nodded his beak up and down. “But as heroes, we are all sort of type A personalities. We fight, make up, fight again, and then find a reason to make up once more down the road.”
Starmaster nodded. He had met many other heroes over his years and being aggressive and passionate were prominent features for most. Some focused those characteristics for good, a few were less helpful with their activities. “This will be the third higher branded league I have looked into joining. My time with the Legacy of Spawn was well spent, but the first league that approached me proved to be a very disappointing experience.”
“Who was that?” Zen asked.
“It was the 5th Precinct. Known as The Closer back then, their leader approached me about joining them. A lot of sweet talk, but he never did a very good job answering my questions about anything. Kept everything close to his chest and then he just cut me off. Booted me from conversation. I later discovered he had a habit of doing the same to others. You either immediately drank his Kool-Aid and bowed to his will or got dumped. I’m glad I found that out before I actually signed on any dotted lines.”
“A common story,” Zen said. “Feel free to ask us questions. We may not always know the answer, but we can fake it with the best of them.”
“It seems like these days, there is a 5th Precinct league just about everywhere. Multiple leagues in different divisions. I see there are three of them in Division One in League War 9. Guaranteed Silver, Bronze, and participants awards, I guess.” Starmaster shrugged. “It’s too bad for the Psycho Squad members. Clearly, they are the sacrificial lambs for the 5th’s efforts get second place for their prime members.”
“There are all sorts of strange brews going on for this war. In Division 2, Into The Darkness has three members so far less experienced than the rest of the group it boggles the mind. When divisions are set by the averages of the top six members, these newbies are simply giving wins away.” Zen said. “Easy targets. I hope they are wearing red shirts.”
“Well, sometimes you need that one last person to fill your ranks,” Starmaster said. “Look at poor Dildo Baggins in the Avengers 51 league in Division 3.”
“He’s going to be happy with his second gold medal as he recovers in the infirmary afterwards, though. He’s already named them as ‘his preciouses’.” Zen said. “The team around him is strong enough to carry him.”
A beep went off on Starmaster’s datapad. He looked at the roster for his own new league. There were changes to it since he last looked. “Great. I guess SuperRakly was needed elsewhere. He’s going to be in the Avengers 51 league in Division 5 now. Beast51Mode is joining us.”
“Have a good war, Starmaster,” Slayer B.A.S. said as she walked by, patting Starmaster on the shoulder. “Don’t hate me when it’s over.”
“What?” Starmaster asked. “What does she mean by that?”
“Didn’t you see final postings yet? We’re in Division 4 with the Avengers 51 now.” Zen answered.
“Well that’s just great,” Starmaster shook his head. Things weren’t playing out as perfectly as he had hoped. “I didn’t want to have to fight her. She gives me enough headaches and bruises in the Fight Clubs and KOTM events.”
“Them’s the breaks, sometimes,” Zen said as he waddled away. “We can plan, plan, and plan, but until the day the schedule is announced, nothing is for sure. That’s league war for you.”
