The Arctic Café instantly became the so-called “hot spot” of
Snow Town. Once it was completed and Oswald helmed the day-to-day operations,
there was rarely a moment when it didn’t have a line to the front counter or
heroes lounging around before the fireplace.
“You’d think EB and Santa would bring in a few more
residents to give Oswald there a hand,” Starmaster said to Krystal Frost as
they watched Oswald roll around behind the counter, preparing treats and
ringing up purchases. “Maybe send a few elves over to help. I feel bad for our
new friend.”
“He’s doing fine,” Krystal said, sipping at a steaming cup
of hot chocolate. “One thing you can say about Oswald is he was made for this
job.”
Starmaster shrugged. “I’ll defer to your expertise with
magical constructs. How have your collection efforts been going?”
“Fairly well. EB’s chocolate has been challenging to find.”
“Same for me.” Starmaster said as he relaxed into his chair.
“I’ve been from New Amsterdam to Transyvania to outer space looking for it, but
I always seem to get there after Hot Wings or Sarg cleared the location.”
Krystal tapped a finger to the side of her nose. “Some do
seem to have a knack for it.”
“The effort by everyone has been pretty impressive. It
shouldn’t be too much longer before we reach the quantity EB needs.” Starmaster
lifted his mask up with his telekinetic power and took a few bites of his snow
cone. His face winced with discomfort after a few seconds.
As did everyone else in the Artic Café. Heroes began to
stagger, their foreheads wrinkled with pain. Most of them leaned against the
nearest object as they pinched the bridge of their noses with their fingers and
screwed their eyes tightly shut.
Krystal Frost leaned forward, a sudden ache building in her
skull as well. She fought to stand up but struggled to get to her feet. “What’s
going on?”
“Oh, oh, oh, eee,” Starmaster said. “Give it a
second. ohhhhh, I’m sorry… brain freeze.”
The pain in everyone’s mind faded away. Several patrons exchanged
a dirty look with him as they drew closer, preparing snowballs with their
gloved hands, despite his efforts to apologize.
“I think I’d better go hunt for some more chocolate.”
Starmaster teleported out of the café, leaving Krystal alone at the table
shaking her head.
