In the old world I was something of a outlier in that I didn't play one traditional style. I had Blood, Island, Loose Cannon, and E.L.E, who were all very powerful for their level.
Wyld chyld, Rex, Macabre and Phobetor who were moderate spender accounts and then a vast array of free toons at various levels. So, I played in every class.
Over time I learned that there was a game within the game. And that often winning league wars was simply a game of matching up stronger pieces 1 vs 1 against a projected opponent field. You won't always be fortunate enough to have 7+ monster toons to field a league and sometimes the different between success and failure comes down to one important in game class. Having stronger moderate spenders. Especially when fielding multiple teams.
Experienced roster builders start with a base group of players that work well together. Have chemistry. And hopefully have access to each others toons. This allows for access to launch gang atks when an opponent is found to have a weak suit or makes a mistake and doesn't put on gear at all (it's happened).
After that level adjusters are added where they apply to land in the field you wish to land in. Building a moderate spender account requires patience. Along with far more thought and tactical prowess than simply throwing money at a problem. What i consider a moderate spender is the player who enjoys the game enough that he is willing to spend 10-25 dollars a week give or take on the game for morphons. Obviously my first piece of advice is until their is a league buy option for smaller increments, hide that money from yourself. Take that 10-25 dollars on friday and hide it away. It doesn't exists. 10-25 dollars is literally a couple convenience store sodas and a burger combo or 2 at a local eatery. Its a reasonable amount to part with if you wish to elevate yourself from the free player caste and begin to compete in events.
So... Hide that money from yourself and instead of getting 740 mps for 25 bucks once a week. Once a month raid your stash and go talk to zen in the buyer group about getting in on a hundo buy. You will more than double your investment doing this. With 6k mps you can make some considerable changes to your toons gear selection with in store gear.
For new players i recommend 1 of each core type, a Kang Shen head, Mondo Gauntlet arm, Shendit of Anubis leg, Ghastly Tread boots, Spike ring.
Once youve done this initial investment, your gear selection should put you in decisive control over truly free players. Even with limited power selection.
I recommend this starter equipment package and spending what remains on the highest movement cards available for your level in the highest quantity you can afford with remaining mps.
Enjoy this month of building. Put sp into movement. Attempt to find a league like the next level gym (shameless plug) that has invested in the training grounds where you can select the -xp option. Doing so allows you to play more and acquire less xp. So you can join more events like fight clubs, harvesting more crystals which you can flip into higher tier crystal powers to build a deck.
Harvest crystals at any opportunity. Fight in every fight club. Join any raid that offers cards as a reward and shoot for minimal damage that offers significant chance at cards being rewarded.
Save 10-25 dollars a week in your hiding spot for a few more weeks. Go see my man zen about that hundo buy!!!
Whatever gear slots you have opened up in the last month. Attempt to first buy mp gear for that corresponding slot. Once you have done this i recommend holding your mps and waiting to pounce on something that will take you from zero to hero quickly. Wait on a stat challenge card. Once you hear one is available. Do the math. Buy 1. See what it costs to tier. When you get in early you can buy it and tier it for the cheapest price getting crazy bang for buck ratio.
Do the math and buy as many as you can while allowing enough mps to tier it to 4! Once it sells out and it will. You have just acquired a big advantage for a fraction of its sold out price.
Continue to build for another month finding that hiding spot once a week. By month 3 when you go see Zen the fun begins.
Now with a starter set of gear, a few starter cards, we can begin the fun of building a deck. At this juncture make sure your gear set is complete and you can either rinse recycle repeat on a stat challenge card or go in on a 100 bucks worth of the nova shuffle. A chance at some elite gear and a chance at high end cards to build up for duels and brawls.
Following this pattern for less than 6 months and controlled leveling has the potential to build a talented and capable toon for league wars. Remember when playing on a budget to be patient and wait for in game values to present themselves like the recent xmas and new years sales. Begin planning ahead for major holidays to feature said sales and begin to project every three to four months on league wars having good in game purchase events.
Remember. Sometimes the difference between gold and silver will come down to not who is your strongest. But which team has the best bag killers. The heart of this game just like in the real world is in the middle class.
