Tug of War: Who will be the Halftime Entertainer?

The B.A.D.G.E. parking lots for the Tug of War event are full of vehicles and shuttlecraft, tents and mobile headquarter, and partying heroes. After two full rounds of combat, many competitors have left the muddy battlefield and wait in the wings, celebrating with their teammates and cheering on those still with their hands on the rope.

“Do any of you know who they plan on bringing in for the halftime show?” Tri-Blade asked.

“It is supposed to be someone big, but they are keeping super-hush-hush about it.” Magnificent Punlork replied.

Krystal Fae stands near the scoreboard and analyzes the current standings. The digital scoreboard now displays the lowest ranked performers who stand to be cut from the next round. “I can’t say that there are any big surprises here. The remaining combatants are all strong.”

“You aren’t kidding,” Crossroads said. “I wish I had lasted longer. Blue might be in the lead right now, but the fact each round the points gained increases means a slip-up or underperformance will have a huge impact.”

“Yes. One win in Round 4 will earn as many points as four wins in Round 1 or two wins in Round 2. The stakes get higher each time the team size decreases.” Krystal glanced down at her watch. “Don’t you need to start bringing them in?”

Crossroads nodded. “It won’t take long. Timebender is helping me by looping my portals, shunting me back a few seconds after creating one so I can create a different one.”

“It’s going to be very interesting. I’ve never done this many perception filters at one time.” Krystal stretched her fingers in preparation.

A siren blared, announcing the desire for heroes to gather around the stage built between the two parking lots.

Crossroads and Timebender nodded to one another and they began opening her portals. She created apertures into multiple spacial locations. Timebender shunted the chronal field to specific temporal periods around her portals, linking the portals to past events. Krystal Fae cast spells to hide the distortions from people present on the opposite sides.

All the heroes could walk around and enjoy the booming performances coming from the different stages across time and space. On one, the Beatles performing in Liverpool could be observed. Another showed the Live Aid concert where Queen took the stage. Woodstock, U2, Weird Al, the Sydney Opera House, and many other venues could be watched by the gathered crowd of heroes.

For the rest of the third day of the Tug of War, music filled the fields creating a cacophony of sound of the best concerts ever performed. Simultaneously.
