PoV: Heads Will Roll Tournament

By Aflima

Some time back, the inaugural Faction Wars tournament took place and for those who were around at that time, they'd have noticed similarities with the Heads Will Roll. Expanded rosters primarily filled with superleagues, going at it. Like the Faction Wars, this tournament got mixed reviews but more importantly good feedback. Here's my observations:

Having two divisions was absolutely the correct call, despite fears from players at the lower rung being concerned about their ability to amass wins individually. Could the division mark off point be varied in a future iteration? Probably, but when you consider there are powerhouse players at the L100 range for example who can destroy those at say L400, maybe the option should be there for players between L100 and L400 to choose which division to register under.

On the recruit then draft setup, we observed scenarios where some squads didn't need to draft as they recruited a full roster beforehand. I think in the interest of variances of roster building as well as introducing more strategy, something similar to how the Indian Premier League in cricket operates should be considered... leaders can select (retain) a maximum of X number of squad mates per level tier, then unselected players go to the standard draft. You could possibly expand on this where leaders could TRADE(!) out of their draft pick slot if they desperately want an extra squad mate in that same tier. The mechanics and mathematics of such would need to be trialled, but there's a lot of potential to be explored.
