Post-Door Testimonials: Steet-Talk on Trick-or-Treating for Heroes

By Chaz Hamilton
ID 22349, 18056, 21401 (and more)

We at the Sentinel have been walking the streets, talking to people, and collecting some stories of successful outings for our heroes this Halloween, or should I say Hero-ween. Lights have been going on and off all night indicating who has candy and who just wants the day to be over. (Too bad there hasn't been an option to TP these houses. That would have been fun for some of the hooligans to get revenge for having lights go off just as they got to the door.) Some houses have had lines down the street corner as our intrepid little Trick-or Treaters have been busy collecting their goodies.

The longest lines, of course, have been noted at Director Nova's own house, despite the rows of armed robots at attention all along the steps leading to his front door.

Strangely enough, Chase has been caught handing out gifts at her front door as well, but she insists that nobody mentions that they saw her there. I guess even kidnap victims get Hero-ween off from their captors. And somebody, please let Director Nova know that Strange Quark isn't missing. He is at home, having left the BADGE Medical Bay ABMA (Against BADGE Medical Authorization)

Here are some of the comments made by participating heroes:

"This is really a diabolical way to promote Halloween and still beat the Halloween Spirit. Trick or treating is supposedly for children, but here in the other dimension it is actually for adults. The treats have been mega hits. You never know what you will get. The variety is enormous to say the least. The mini bosses do give out some neat stuff. The players are actually giving away really better treats. I have gained power card, morphon particles, mega bux and minor bux, even some gear. There at my last count were over 80 players plus the bosses. I made 1 complete round through all as some were just coming on. The generosity, sharing, caring attitudes is stupendous and so more like Christmas. So down with Halloween, the tricky and deceitful spirit and everyone wish all good luck and enjoy the gift giving. Gee Development team, what's next Thanksgiving Turkey Shoot? Christmas is also coming up. will the Grinch show up or the real Holiday Nightmare Krampus pop up to try to ruin Christmas. Well Xcentric here shooting off at the mouth again as usual. Got to run for now. CHOW" ID#18056

"With hallows eve closing, many heroes are on the streets for both candy and defence! there is still fear over an eruption of violence by citizens not yet given a vaccine.
one person who is loving the holiday is Fleagle, for the one time he can show his face in public and not be sneered at has come!
with many trick or treators on the streets it is difficult to find an aggressor. fleagle sniffs one out, he charges through the door to be met by Skelanimal!!! ready to pounce and fight tho certain death will insue, skele pays the 180 mp fine for his infractions and is allowed to go free." - Fleagle

"Cadaverdog teleported into the house and could find no trace of Nova or anything else for that matter-just an empty shell except for the camera perched upon a nearby tree watching the lines build in front of the humble abode followed by ones being magically repelled away only to restart the painful process once again. And to what avail, only to achieve the same results for hours upon hours of nothingness. Was this a test of patience, a cruel joke, a distraction, or what? Meanwhile, in an undisclosed location on the other side of the 1's and 0's watches the perpetrator laughing hysterically. Who could it be and for what purpose?" --\/ Osote \/ ID: 21401

"Took an early morning (started somewhere between 3 and 3:30 AM) 4-wheeler ride for like an hour an half and when I came back I am still in line at the pumpkin head dude." -Derek Hazelwood

"I'm a true to life A hole 99% of the time. But ill give the devil his due. This event is pretty fun. It's well thought out and it seems to operate without a hitch. Good job developers." --Christopher Justice

"Thanks Burgess Meridith for the 100 MPs!"- Steven Crowsley

"Zen- 500mp" -- Rakly Dominguez

"I am now, officially, a Zen-ophile!!! Thank you, you beautiful Penguin."--Arcane Ace

Our camera's caught Zen Spheniscidae at the door, disguised as Burgess Meredeath, handing out this prize. I think Zen might be trying to get a shot at the Jack's Icy Glare head piece. He likely likes the Icy Glare part, thinking he can use it to make ice for the restaurant and bar. I hope you get it bud!

That's what people have been saying. If you would like to comment on your experience, please let me know at Chaz Hamilton. There is an open comment post on the Heroes Rising Players page looking for comments.

There are just over 26 hours left to Trick-or-Treat heroes (Yes, Daylight Savings Time really kicked in this year. We gained a whole day, LOL)

Extreme Treating!!! Mind-blowing Halloween Surprises being given away.

By Chaz Hamilton

ID: 22349

Trick-or-Treating is well underway here on the streets of Heroes Rising. I must say, I've found the activity very, very interesting. Every hero is giving away something, but as always, you have those who give away those horrible black, orange, or white unknown blobs of goo candies and those who give away full-sized Wonka bars.

So far, I have seen heroes skipping away from some houses with Morphons, large bags of Bux, and some pretty sweet Power Cards. There are even some heroes who have been posting signs outside of their houses or on the Players Page to lure people in.

Mayor CJ has placed a Crown of Arcadia, Hoverboard Boots, Powerlock Rings, and cases of 5 Million dollars in his candy bowl. I think it must be an election year.

Skelanimal must be back on the planet and his candy bowl has packages of 70 Morphons (which I have to wonder if he stole from the BADGE laboratories while he was aboard the space station. I mean, who keeps those sitting around the house), High Kicks gear, and Gloves of Hephaestus. I would be willing to bet he is after at least one Jack's Icy Glare headgear.

Shinobi has included gear pieces and 1 Million bux. If you haven't seen his costume yet, be sure to check it out and LOVE it. He did a great job with his entry in the costume contest, as did many others, but I think he nailed it.

Hot Wings has shared he is out to make some player's year by offering some extra-sweet rewards. The generosity of some heroes is OUTSTANDING, but also a bit shocking. What must I still have if I were willing to give away a few Drachen Feuer Helms, High Kicks, and Shaman Bell Knee Braces.

For newer players, some of the items being handed out are only available one time in Nova's Mystery Shuffle. These pieces of gear would be worthy of going on the Antiques Road Show and be considered big ticket items.

I've also seen some POWERFUL Power Cards being given away. Gold Mission reward cards from zones many have not been able to visit yet. A Thunder Strike (also only available in the Shuffle). A Summon Plants Power Card (I don't know where that came from, but the recipient is very please with it).

I highly recommend that all players, especially new players get out there and vote... Sorry... get out there and TRICK-OR-TREAT as much as possible. Not only does it benefit the people giving items away, but it is fun to see what goodies you might walk away with.

If you are below level 40, this is a great opportunity to snag some Crystal cards that will help you save your money, or some higher level cards that will be much better than what are currently available for you to buy.

Higher level character, not only is it a good way to clean house (or your inventory), it will help give some poor, lowly level characters a nice boost to their capabilities. Thank you for your generosity and good luck getting that Jack's Icy Glare.

Keep knocking on doors people. Enjoy the event, because I think everyone is going to come out a winner on this one!!!

Happy Halloween.

Heroes Rising Fiction: Tricking the Trickster Part 18

The Leagues all stood around the center field. Each wearing their various medals they had won this League Wars. The screens, now fully repaired, hovered around them as the millions of fans cheered and applauded their leagues.

“Ladies and Gentlemen...please...” The announcer calmed the robust audience. “Thank you. We end this, the fifth League Wars, with honor and pride. It has been a strange event this time around, but the heroes only proved their merit by battling a true villain in the midst of this contest. Now, we would like to thank our international sponsors who have made it possible for people of Earth to see this, free of charge.” Images flashed on the screen from the sponsors for a moment, then the screens flickered and an orange haze swept into the stadium. “I’m sorry, but it appears to be some kind of technical difficulty.”

Krystal Fae left her league and rushed to the center stage. “No, not again!”

The cackling voice of Spirit of Halloween boomed out, “Truly amazing, friends. Such a wonderful trick to play on me.” His face first appeared on the screens.

Shinobi groaned, “Not this guy again.”

Fleagle growled.

Starmaster called out, “What do you want this time?”

Suddenly, from the middle of the field, a giant, semi-transparent Spirit of Halloween rose. It filled the arena with its size, and continued to laugh as he rose higher, above the heroes. “Did you really think you could trap me in another dimension? A good trick, but certainly not permanent.”

Chromatic Death yelled, “I’m ready whenever you are!” He strummed his guitar.

“Time for tricks is over!” Spirit said, “you have tricked the trickster, now it is time for the treat. Powered candy, a gift to the heroes who gave me the best Halloween in many years.” He grew in size and rose higher until he was outside the station. Suddenly he exploded and a shower of colored dots rained down across the planet below. Some of the dots landed inside the arena.

Everyone spent a moment looking at each other. Krystal reached down and picked up a piece of this candy. “This is...just candy? No, there is more to this.” She unwrapped and closed her hands over it. Other heroes were picking up pieces, investigating them. With a shot, she opened her eyes and gasped, “morphon enhanced candy. We need to get this before it causes any trouble.”

Starmaster came over holding up his communicator, “I just tried contacting the station. I’m getting the all-clear, but I can’t contact Nova.”

“Must still be fixing things over there.” She ran up to the mic, still at center stage. “Heroes, we have a job to do. Time to gather some candy. Spread out, cover the Earth. Find all this candy.” Heroes rushed away from the arena, having picked it clean of the candy.

Heretic and Dredge came over to Krystal. Dredge begrudgingly said, “Should someone go tell WMD about this? They’ve already left the arena, after that mic-drop moment from Midgardsormr.”

Krystal thought for a moment. “I don’t know. Are they back on Earth yet?”

Heretic snarled, “I don’t know, and I don’t care. They’ll figure it out. And, if they don’t, more for the rest of us.”

“Fine. You guys head off. I’ll join my team and get to work on this.” They left her for their league. She vanished in a flash of purple light.

While the sponsors were still running across the screens, the Arena completely emptied.

“Okay, this is just nuts.” EB kicked a door.

“What?” Chaz asked.

“Nothing will open. I can’t even get this door to open for the access shaft. We have to find Nova.”

Gar came over and punched the button. When it buzzed at him, he suddenly reached back and then laid a fist into the door, broke a hole in it, and ripped it clear from the wall. “There.”

“Whoa, gett’n serious.” EB said.

Gar growled, “I’ve had enough. Find Nova, now.”

“Aye, aye, sir.” EB gave a salute and then blasted down the shaft at his normal, near-light speeds.

Gar walked back to the center of the room. “We have to get the controls working.”

Chaz tapped buttons, but nothing responded. “It’s active, at least it looks active. It’s like looking at a painting of it working.”

“Computer, authorization code Omega Seven Pi Alpha.” Gar called out his clears code, but the computer didn’t respond.

Chaz jumped up. “What about pulling out the plug?”

“What?”

He looked around, “Um, you know, when my TV box is totally screwed up and the remote won’t work, they tell me to unplug it and wait a few seconds and then plug it back in. It causes it to reboot.”

“Computers wear boots?”

Chaz shook his head, “no, it means it will reset it. Maybe it will go back to what it was supposed to be doing before. Do you have any idea where the main power plug is for this place?”

Gar smiled brightly. “Yes! I think I do. Director Nova told me about the main power junction that connects the Operations to the rest of the station. I think he said something about a power connection.”

“Worth a try.”

Gar ran over to a part of the wall near the main monitors. He ignored the bolts required to remove the panel and just tore it free. Inside was a lot of smaller cords, and one giant, red glowing cord. It had hazard warnings all over it.

Chaz joined him, “Looks good. Now, what do we use to disconnect it and not get electrocuted?”

Gar smiled, “can’t electrocute stone.” He leaned in, wrapped his arms around the cord, and pulled hard.

EB raced into the security area, “NOVA! BUDDY!” He jumped over and around fallen robots. “Man, it’s dark.” He created a glowing egg and paused in the middle of the hall. “NOVA!”

“DOWN HERE!” Nova yelled.

EB smiled, “Oh, that way.” He ran a few feet, jumped over a robot, but hit its arm as it was now moving. He tumbled across the floor and landed on his face, the glowing egg rolling away.

“Intruder! Intruder!” The robot stated and rose to its feet, taking aim with its gun.

EB was about to say his access code, when the robot shot. He jumped and bounced off walls to avoid being lasered in the face, “HEY, WATCH IT!”

“Intruder!” Another robot stated and stood up, then another joined it. All those robots he had jumped over, and some he had yet to pass, became active.

“YIPES!” He had to jump all over the place to avoid the dozen lasers being fired his direction.

“Intruder, halt...halt...intruder.” The robots spoke in jagged speech, and their movements were worthy of a bad zombie movie.

EB formed an exploding egg and threw it as he flew through the air. It exploded on contact and blew the head off of a robot. “What’s going on?”

“EB, HELP!” Nova called out.

“BUDDY!” He threw another egg, this one exploding with a lot of sticky taffy that stuck two robots together. With an opening formed, he raced down the hallway.

Rounding the last corner, he slid to a stop at the sight of the robots pointing their guns at Nova, who was inside Skelanimal’s cell.

“LEAVE MY BUDDY ALONE!” EB formed several eggs and threw them one after the other. Heads, arms, and legs were all destroyed by his onslaught. In a matter of moments, the robots guarding these cells were piles of smoking, sparking debris.

Nova rolled his one eye, “That’s gonna cost us.”

“You okay?” EB jumped up and pressed the open button. The field didn’t come down.

Nova said, “I’m fine. But our friend is gone and has left us with these nasty surprises.”

EB hopped up several times, tapping the button over and over and over. “Stupid thing. It’s like this down in Operations. Nothing’s working.”

“intru...in...truder...intruder...” The robot guards came from around every corner. New ones were activating and joining this army.

EB turned, pressing his back against the wall. “Crap, crap, crap. This is bad.” he formed eggs in each paw.

“Get away, they can’t hurt me and...” Just then the lights went off, the robots all went silent, and all electronic sounds buzzed off.

EB asked, “what...just happened?”

“I don’t know.” Nova answered.

The lights all came back on and the robots remained still as the lights on their heads flickered.

“What’s that?” EB asked.

Nova frowned, “If I didn’t know better, I’d say they are resetting.”

Gar’s voice came over the comm, “Director, we have reset the station. Systems are coming back to normal.”

EB hopped up and slapped the control again. This time the field came down. “IT WORKS!”

Nova stepped out, “Good work. I need an internal scan. Skelanimal is loose.”

Gar said, “Sorry, systems are still re-shoeing...” Chaz said something, “Oh, um, they are rebooting. Sensors aren’t working yet.”

“Get me those sensors. Lock down every access port on this station. Make sure the escape pods are sealed and locked.”

“Um… okay.”

“Do your best. I have to find Skelanimal.” Nova flicked off the comm.

“Do you think he’s still here? Wouldn’t he have gone a long time ago?” EB asked.

“The shuttles and pods were all accounted for after the Spirit event. There is no other way off the station for him. And I know Skelanimal cannot teleport.”

“Where would he go to hide?” EB asked.

“He would try to get off. Hopefully, we can trap him in a pod if he...tries to...oh no.” Nova started running.

“WHAT?” EB followed.

“I have to check on something. You go back and get Dr. Henderson to medical.”

“Right-o sir.” EB raced back to the cell.

Nova ran through the station as fast as he could muster. Most of the systems were back online, but some remained in rebooting. He shoved two doors open and launched himself through the food court and toward the same door he had returned to this station days ago.

Sliding to a stop, he pressed a code in and the docking doors opened. His face drained of color and he let out a soft sigh. He stood before an open hatch with force fields keeping space from pulling him out of the station. What he should be looking at was the inside of the small shuttle he had arrived on. It was gone.

Slapping his comm he said, “Gar, do you see a shuttle outside?”

Gar said, “No. We don’t have sensors yet. But we have visual. No shuttles.”

“Sir, are you there?” Suddenly Dr. Henderson’s voice came through his comm. She sounded muffled, like a person fresh from the dentist's office.

“Doctor, are you okay?”

“I’ve been better. But we have a situation down here.”

“What now?”

“It’s Strange Quark….he’s missing.”

Trick-or-Treating Comes to the Heroes Rising Community

By Chaz Hamilton

ID: 22349

Before the month of October ends, we have the opportunity to revisit a simpler, more childlike pastime.

Trick or Treating!!!

No need for training or anything strenuous. All you need to do is do some virtual doorknocking.

There are a couple of fun options built into this EVENT!

1) Going door to door to collect gifts from other players and in-game personalities. Who knows what you might get. Some players may give out little treats where others offer bigger rewards of Morphons, Gear, Bux, or Power Cards. All that you need to do is knock on a door, wait for them to open it, and take the reward. For players that use an email to play rather than a Facebook account, this is a good way to get some in game ITEMS, such as More Fun bars or Hater Aid, that are not accessible without Facebook Friends.

2) You can choose to fill a bucket with items possessed by your character to give away. Go to the HOST YOUR HOUSE FOR TRICK OR TREATING button on the top of the main event page. Follow the instructions and fill your buckets with goodies. The more you give away, the more you could earn in rewards for quantities of items given out. For example, the first treat another player takes from you earns a Selfie With Nova Power Card. 30 items given away will earn you 30 Morphons. The list goes on and on.

And speaking of Morphons, if you read all the way to the bottom of the list of rewards for giving away items from your house, there is the potential to earn a Jack's Icy Glare head piece, first offered as a prize in the raid against The Spirit of Halloween. If you give away the most raw Morphon (not items purchased with MP) points to Trick-or-Treaters at your house, you win one of these highly-sought after Gear Pieces. One will be assessed every daily 24-hour period of time, so don't wait. This event ends on Sunday.

So, take a look at your inventories and see what you have to part with. Have fun sending special little messages to other players, knocking on their doors, and spreading some good natured activity with other players collecting more prizes. Take some time to be social and enjoy the community. It won't be long until we have some new super-villain to face.

All the special instructions are listed in the special Go Trick-or-treating button.

Happy Halloween! Don't forget to enter the costume contest so we can all see what showed up at our doors.

In The Room with AN INTERVIEW WITH AN AVENGER

By Chaz Hamilton and Trace Evans

ID#: 22349 and 10950

“So, you want to tell me the story of your life?” Chaz asked the dark figure standing just outside the open glass doors. It felt good to be back on Earth, doing a typical one-on-one with another person, despite the unusual location requested by his interviewee. While taking a trip to New Orleans on the Sentinel tab did have its appeal, being in an old plantation house near and old church in the middle of nowhere left him a bit shaken.

But some heroes had a deep need for an air of mystery. Chaz could live with that as long as his efforts got him back to Bourbon Street before last call.

“That’s what I’m here to do,” The man facing out the balcony window replied. He didn’t wear a costume as most capes Chaz interviewed had, instead a dated brown suit and a short tail of hair leaving the back of his neck bare was all the reporter could see at first. “I’ve been told you are a collector of lives. I’ve had many.”

“That’s fine. My recorder has plenty of memory for whatever you have to say.” Chaz placed the small, black device on the table between the two of them. He ran his finger over the wooden surface, finding it covered with a film of dust. “Is this your place”

“No,” the man replied. “It is used to host charity haunted houses for the local community.”

“Oh.” The answer caught Chaz off guard. He pressed the start button. “Why don’t we get started, then. Let’s start with a simple question.”

The man turned and walked into the room. His appearance shifted slightly, his suit becoming a black shirt, pants with knee high boots and mask which covered from the tip of his nose up. A perfect image of The Dread Pirate Roberts. “As you wish.”

“Whoa,” Chaz shot back in his chair, nearly overturning himself. “What’s going on? Where did he go?”

“I’m still here, but I bored of that shape. Does it bother you?”

Chaz tried to gather his wits, ignoring the sweat forming on the back of his neck. “No. No. I’m good. Shapechanging is cool. What should I call you? Mr. Elwes?”

The pirate smirked. “I am Ninja Lord Fuma Hanzo. Perhaps you’ve heard of me by other names, though. The Pumpkin King? Low Key?” His appearance shifted again to that of a standard ninja. Then a man with a jack-o-lantern for a head followed by a replica of an Thor’s half-brother.

“Yes, you’re a member of the Avengers, aren’t you?” Chaz made a fist and cha-chinged. An interview with an Avenger would look great in his resume if anything ever happened at the Sentinel. “How would you describe what do you do?”

"Simply put? I fight the fights others are afraid to fight for themselves and assist those that aren't." Hanzo shifted again, becoming Hellboy. His tail swiped about the room, thumping loudly against a table leg.

“How long have you been around?”

“I was born 46 Earth years ago, but I am much older. I have existed throughout time. Like your Merlin,” A wizened old druid now stood opposite Chaz, leaning on a tall staff. “I was older in the past and younger in your future. Time is a construct we exist in, but one we can step out of and return at different points. Think of time as a spiral staircase with missing steps. Through those missing steps, one can climb up to a later point in time or fall through to a previous point. So, even though I was born 46 years ago, I have been alive for thousands of years.”

Thinking quickly on the Avenger’s research he had done to prepare for league wars, Chaz remembered a fact he often wondered about. “I’ve heard mention that you were a pirate king at some point. What was that like?”

A uniform Chaz didn’t recognize adorned the new appearance before him. Part Malcolm Reynolds, Han Solo, and Flash Gordon rolled into one being. “Space Pirate would be a more accurate label. Sailing the stars has always brought a sense of freedom. There are so many wonders in the universe. The birth of stars. The end of them too. And no matter how far you go, there is always more to see. Species of all kinds. Earth isn't the youngest planet to hold civilization, but it is far from the oldest. “ Hanzo pulled some type of pistol from his belt and twirled it in his hand, stopping it and pulling the trigger at Chaz. No electric buzz or bullet exited the chamber. “In a fight, I always fire first!”

After his heart started to beat again, Chaz took a deep breath. It was obvious the person he sought to ask questions of had a mercurial personality, but the rapid-fire variety and activity tested his nerves. He needed to ground the conversation for a bit.  “We’re here at a haunted house. Am I right to assume you are a fan of Halloween?”

“I am not so much a fan of Halloween as I am a fan of children. Like Christmas, or Easter, or any number other holidays, the heart and soul of those holidays are the smiles, laughs, and screams of glee from those children. In every neighborhood, you see people go all out to decorate for Christmas. But Halloween only seems to get the token treatment. So, I picked Halloween to bring joy to kids. Having certain talents, I was just really good at it. It grew and grew. We give the proceeds to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Again, I'm a fan of kids. Not like Joe Biden, mind you.” Hanzo changed into the Vice President, but not wearing the typical politician’s suit and tie. Instead, he wore a white jumpsuit and his arms were tied in a straitjacket. He tilted his head back and gave a Mark Hamill worthy Joker laugh.

The ease with which Hanzo altered his appearance stunned Chaz as well making him curious. “Can you describe what it feels like to shapeshift? Does it hurt or is it like changing clothes?”

“Shapeshifting is a simple way to explain my nature. See, I come from a star far, far from Earth. My species is almost as old as the universe itself. We evolved from the primordial ooze that makes up the physical universe itself. To understand our physiology, think of us as colonies of organic nanobots made from reprogrammable stem cells.” The body became a rapidly shifting kaleidoscope of faces and limbs, as if each part of the man were being scrolled through on an avatar maker for a video game. “Each cell is capable of existing on its own. Each cell holds the consciousness of the colony as a whole. So, rearranging my structure is as simple and natural as turning your head is to you. I only feel pain when some of them die. Fortunately, my cellular structure replicates at a phenomenal rate compared to most humans.”

Chaz gave up on trying to imagine what it was like to morph into different shapes. He switched subjects again. “You’re pretty tight with the Avengers. What is it like working with them?”

“When I came to Earth, I had lost everything. My people. My kingdom. My planet. My family. Even the love of my life.” Hanzo became a variety of his teammates, starting with Starscream , then Fiero , Harlequin Rogue , ߣµε Drå§ô∩, Rakly, Abstract, Strange Quark and the rest of his league. “When I became an Avenger, it was like having a family again. We fight. We make up. We agree. We disagree. But one thing is for sure, we all have each other's back. The Avengers rally around each other. They collectively raise money to solve each other's problems, both here and in other worlds. There is always an ear or a shoulder to cry on. We're not just Avengers. We're real people with real struggles and real problems. And knowing they're there for you no matter what...... Being an Avenger is the closest thing to being in a real family that I think one can achieve outside of a real family, and for me, this is valuable because it has been a long time since I've seen or heard from my real family.”

“How did you loose your one true love?” Intrigued by the comment, Chaz pushed the issue.

Hanzo returned to his space pirate shape. “The Legion had a prophecy that the key to their undoing slept within the blood, or DNA, of my people. So, they set out to exterminate my kind throughout the galaxy. Many of us escaped and went into hiding. I, along with my betrothed and a host of others that were attending my wedding when the Legion attacked, made our escape and headed to Earth. While the Legion had their prophecies, so did our people. Earth was a backwards and primitive planet. There was little that was remarkable about it. Even the dominant species, you humans, was frail and unremarkable when compared the other children of the universe. But within our own legends it was told you humans had great heart and would one day become the greatest of God's children, ending the evil that ended us. So, we came here. Being as old a species as we are, we know the stargates and pathways that you call wormholes. We also had the technology to utilize them. Unfortunately, at some point in time, the Legion gained time travel technology too and were able to get to Earth ahead of us. I fear it was my own doing that allowed them this technology. But that is a different story. We had nearly made it to Earth when we were ambushed by a bounty hunter. I separated from the rest of my party to draw him away after he had disabled our main transport. My plan was to hit the hyperdrive when he cast his magnetic field net around my ship while trying to capture me. I had hoped opening a wormhole and dragging him through it would get us far away from the rest of my crew of refugees. Far away from the woman I loved and was robbed from marrying. But somehow, the interaction of his net interfered with the hyperdrive engines opening the wormhole. When we exited the wormhole, we were still headed towards Earth, both ships now disabled and being pulled uncontrolled towards it. My scanners said my party was nowhere to be found. Further analysis determined that the wormhole didn't send us through space. It sent us through time. We landed in the late 14th century Japan. I believe this is how the Legion found Earth to begin with. Had we not come, perhaps they wouldn't have either. I spent nearly 2 centuries stranded in feudal Japan. During that time, I taught several villages that had been oppressed by the samurai class, how to defend themselves, and the 1st ninja clans were born. Once Earth technology had reached a point that time travel was possible, one of the clans that survived to the present day used schematics they had found among artifacts associated with me, to rescue me from the past. But during those two centuries, I filled the hole in my heart with many wives. They lived. They grew old. They died. But not me......... not me....... I fathered many children and my DNA, the DNA of my people, mingled with that of you humans. When the Legion unleashed the Morphons onto you, those who had traces of my DNA mutated and birthed the metahumans here now. It is you who are prophesied to end the Legion and deliver my people from hiding. At least, I hope they are hiding. When I came back to this time, I found no trace of my people or my love. Since then, I have traveled through both time and space to find them with no luck. Nowhere have I found any evidence of any of my people still alive. I fear, this too is my fault. It was when we crashed to Earth that the bounty hunter captured the wreckage of my ship and the Legion gained time travel technology. I fear they used it to hunt us all down anywhere and any-when we might have been. It's up to your people now, our children, to avenge us.”

“What has been your favorite period of history to have lived through?” Chaz wanted to lighten the mood.

Archie Bunker appeared in front of him. “My favorite period of history was when the universe was birthed from the womb of a dying god.”

“Have you ever replaced someone? You know, as a shapechanger, taken their form and pretended to be them, like twins doing a bait and switch?”

“Do you mean like this?” Hanzo matched Chaz’s own appearance, mirroring the surprise on Chaz’s face when he gasped. “I replace people all the time. I'm a master spy. It's how I get information. Furthermore, it allows me to lose anyone tailing me, or ambush unsuspecting opponents, or unnerve reporters.”

“Don’t do that, please,” Chaz asked. There was already one hero out there walking around with his face. He didn’t like the thought of another.  A slight unease crept into the pit of Chaz’s stomach. “Where do you say you stand on the whole good/evil chart? Lawful good, Chaotic Evil, somewhere in between?”

A strange creature Chaz knew from Japanese folklore, an Oni, swelled out of Hanzo’s imitation of Chaz. “Am I good? Am I evil? That's a philosophical question. Many will tell you each answer. While I like to think I have a good heart, I have no scruples. I am like a funhouse mirror. I cast back one's own reflection, but with a twist. If you're my friend, you'll swear I'm one of the best friends you have. If I am your enemy, the devil would be the lesser of two evils. “I am the punishment of God... If you had not committed great sins, God would not have sent a punishment like me upon you.” if I were to take an alignment classification, I would have to say chaotic good.”

“OK. That’s helpful.” Chaz felt like he was beginning to experience whiplash from all the shifting forms. He began to worry that the table or his chair would suddenly begin to change as well. “What is something that most people wouldn’t expect from you?”

Hanzo the Oni placed a hand to his chin and then morphed into Captain Caveman, smashing the table with a large club. “CAPTAIN CAAAAVVVEEMAAANNN! There, did you expect that?”

His chair toppling backwards, Chaz waved his arms about and fought to regain his balance. “Whoooa.” Once he did, he smirked at the 3-D version of the animated character as he picked his recorder out of the debris. “No. I can’t say I did. IKEA must really love you.”

“Ask a silly question,” Captain Caveman shrugged. “Most people wouldn't expect me to save the life of someone I despised, but I have. Most people wouldn't think I would risk myself to help or save strangers, but I have. Most people wouldn't think I was religious, and they would be right. But I am spiritual and talk to the God Most High on a regular basis.”

“Do you have a favorite shape or person to become?” Chaz calmed his breath, reading to end the interview. He had the impression he might not survive the night if he were to try to fully understand this man.

Hanzo became a mannequin, articulated and naked. “Favorite person to become? I'm still becoming him, the best me I can be.”

“Well, I think that is enough for tonight. I want to thank you for taking time to talk with me.” Chaz stood from his chair. “I need to call for my Uber. Is there anything else you’d like to talk about?”

The mannequin shifted to the original form of a man in a dark suit. He turned his back and returned to his original position, staring out the window. “We’ve covered quite a bit. I know where to find you should I think of more.”

“That would be great.” Chaz said as he placed his recorder into his leather satchel.

Hanzo paid no further attention to Chaz, even as he moved to the door and walked down to the first floor.

Chaz waited for several minutes on the front porch of the house, watching for his ride back into New Orleans. There were tall trees lining the long driveway, so he didn’t see the vehicle approach until it had almost reached the house. A middle-aged man waved at Chaz from the driver’s side window. “You called for a ride?”

“Yeah. You made good time.”

“Put that in my review, if you don’t mind.” The car door unlocked, and Chaz slid into the back seat. “Where are we heading?”

“Bourbon Street, of course. Can’t miss Halloween in New Orleans while I have the chance.

The driver nodded once before driving back to the road.

Chaz sat back and tried to relax after the oddity of his interview. With all the shapechanging, Chaz felt he had been speed dating every citizen of a small town. After a few minutes, he pulled out his recorder and started to replay the interview, thinking of his approach to the story.

“What’s that? Some audio-book or something?” The driver asked.

“Not yet, but maybe someday,” Chaz chuckled. He hoped hearing the interview would be easier without the distraction of watching Hanzo alter his forms. A book with all the stories the hero alluded to would be quite a page turner.

“Halloween night, heh. Always a crazy night around here.” The driver commented from the front seat. “Do you want to see something scary?”

Chaz looked up and caught sight of the driver’s face in the rear-view mirror as the car slowed and pulled over to the side of the road. “No. Not really.”

“But I thought you were a collector of lives?”

Chaz’s face went white and the driver’s face shifted into a fanged monster as it turned toward him. “I collect lives too. Heh heh heh hehh….”

Heroes Rising Fiction: Tricking the Trickster Part 17

Nova rushed down the hallway, heading for the laboratories. There was a lot of damage here, seemingly more than most of the station. Spirit had done a great deal of playing with these computers and lights.

He arrived at the door to the lab where Dr. Hostetter had been working. Debris filled the room, and only a small part had been shoved aside so anyone could get through. Computers remained broken and spewing sparks. Large tubes hung down from the ceiling, with bright cords dangling out of them. The few working lights fought to stay active.

“I should have assigned more repair droids to this section.” Nova noted. He called out, “Doctor!”

“In here, sir.” Dr. Hostetters’ hand waved above piles of wreckage.

Nova managed his way over, under, and around the damage to find the doctor. Dr. Hostetter stood in front of the holding area with the shards. Nova asked, “what is the problem?”

“We may have a problem, sir. Unless this station has a fail-safe security system to keep objects secure.”

“Not that I know of. Only for radioactive elements.”

Dr. Hostetter gestured to the holding area. “That’s what I was worried about. I thought, maybe, something had removed the shards to a safe location during the disaster in here. If that wasn’t the case, then they’re all gone.”

Nova looked down, only now realizing what was missing. “What! Are all of them missing?”

“As far as I can tell. I have searched under all the rubble I can move and scanned with what little still works. Nothing so far. Now, it’s possible they flew out of there and are in a corner, behind some hunk of metal too heavy for me to move.”

Nova held up his comm, “Repair droids seven through fourteen, report to Lab forty four at once. Bring lifter units and dematerializers.” An acknowledging beep sounded. Nova turned back to Dr. Hostetter, “When those units get here, direct them as best as you can to help find this stuff. They can move this debris out of the way.”

“I’ll do all I can.”

Nova left the lab just as several of the robots arrived. He walked toward the elevator when his comm device beeped him. “Nova here.”

Gar came through. “Sir, we have communications from members of the league, The Avengers. They are really not happy.”

“I didn’t think they’d be. Midgardsormr did go a bit too far. Tell them I will speak with them once I’m done down here.” He stepped into the elevator and pressed a special code.

Gar asked, “what’s going on down there?”

“Not sure yet. Hopefully, just cleaning up and finding some missing items. Nothing to worry the heroes about just yet. Let me go check on Skelanimal first, then we can start worrying.”

“Oh, uh, understood.” Gar’s signal ended.

Nova smiled, “I’ll let him deal with Avengers right now. I think I’ll have a personal chat with that WMD league. They need to know where to draw the line.” He talked to himself until the door opened.

Nova stepped out into a dark hallway with flickering lights and spewing sparks. This was not unlike the lab, only less debris scattered around. He turned on the small flashlight on the comm device and walked down the corridor with caution. He had to step over several fallen robots and avoid a damaged, flickering security field.

“This place is a mess.” He muttered, “Computer. Status of security systems.”

The computer answered, “security systems are at fifty-three percent activity.”

“What about the high level detention?” Nova asked.

“Detention levels are at maximum.”

Nova smiled again, knowing that their dedicated work to keeping these cells impervious to escape was paying off. This place was in utter ruins, and yet the cells were still holding their prisoners. Or really, the one prisoner.

He turned the last corner and passed what would have been a full check point. In front of him was the cell where Skelanimal still slept on the metal bed attached to a wall.

“Hey, Skelanimal! You missed the show. Apparently, the league you’ve worked with before, they just won the League Wars. I guess they didn’t need you.” He mused. “Hey, wake up!”

Skelanimal didn’t move. This drew some deep concern from Nova, that concern for life that keeps him from wishing even this poor creature dead. He quickly deactivated the forcefield and ran over to Skelanimal.

The bony villain appeared to be asleep. He was breathing, but didn’t react when Nova pushed on him.

“Skelanimal?” Nova felt his face and instantly realized something was desperately wrong. He felt a small, metal object, but couldn’t see one. Then his one eye widened. “A holo-fielder!” He felt the forehead again and pulled the invisible device free from this person.

A holographic field left the body and what had been Skelanimal was Dr. Henderson, laying on her side.

“Oh, no!” Nova turned to leave when the holo-fielder in his hand emitted a loud whistling noise.

The force fields around the cell all activated again. The lights came on and the robot guards stood up. They pointed weapons at Nova, surrounding the holding cell.

Skelanimal’s voice came out of the holo-fielder, “Good work, patchy, you discovered my little ploy. Now, time for the real fun.”

Nova opened his comm device. “operations!” nothing came through. “OPERATIONS!” still nothing.

EB stood on the console next to Chaz, doing what he does best, talking. “So, when I was working during the Civil War, you bet it was hard to keep my work up. Of course, that was only in America. Across the planet, it wasn’t so bad. But transporting myself all over the place was a lot more work back then. You see, I had to oversee the production of all the candy from my company and get it moved. It was hell dealing with the trading companies owned by the British and French and Portuguese and...”

Chaz typed into a small recorder so fast that he broke a sweat. “Wait, wait. I just got that last part in. Now, about my original question.”

“Oh, right...that was...um...what was that first question?”

Chaz scrolled until he came back to the top. “Oh, why did you start your first chocolate company?”

“Oh, yeah. Well, you see. I had time to learn all about human candies and sweets. I traveled all over the place looking for great ways to make better candy. I found honey of all kinds. Did you know that there is a stark difference in honey depending on the tree it comes from? I found this sourwood honey that was sooooo great. But then I came across this tropical variety that I couldn’t get enough of. So good. But getting it and using it to make luscious chocolate was a lot harder three hundred years ago. But so worth it. I tried getting the bees, but I really needed the hives to be near the trees...”

“Wait, I...can’t keep up.” Chaz struggled.

“Oh, well, I can type fast too. So...” Just then the lights in the room changed to a flat white, and the screens went off. It was like being in a movie theater after the show is over.

EB looked around, “What just happened?”

Gar, who had been keeping an eye on the monitors, said, “All the videos just powered down.”

“Obviously.” Chaz replied.

Gar spoke into his comm device. “Director, we have a problem up here.” He waited and said, “Director? Are you there?” Nothing came through.

Chaz looked at his monitors. “I don’t know what this means. But this says we’re transmitting an “all clear” signal.”

“The all clear?” Gar checked the communication terminal near the front. “That is strange. I can’t send or receive anything. This system is just sending out the basic all clear.”

“What’s that mean?” EB asked.

Gar said, “I think Director Nova told me that’s the basic signal sent, so that everyone knows things are good up here. I can’t turn it off. I should be able to.” He jammed a stony finger into the controls, with no results.

“I’ll check on Nova.” EB raced off toward the elevator, but stopped when the door wouldn’t open. “Hey, open up!”

Chaz stood up, “I can’t get my console to respond. Nothing’s working.”

“I have an idea.” EB hopped over to Gar. “I’ll call some of my magical friends over at the arena.”

“How?” Gar asked.

“Magic, silly.” EB laughed and then waved his paws in the air, forming a strange energy. “Krystal...Wizard, buddies….I need you…” He kept this up for a moment and then frowned. “This...this can’t be right. I don’t sense them over there. I don’t sense anyone over there. The arena is empty.”

Heroes Rising Fiction: Tricking the Trickster Part 15.5

Hotwings took a mic from the robot and spoke as he waved to the crowds. “It is with great pride that we accept this. Our opponents were fierce. I wanted to personally thank The Wizard for both contributing to this battle and for being instrumental in helping defeat the villain Spirit of...”

“ENOUGH OF THIS!” Midgardsormr shoved Hotwings aside and grabbed the mic from him. He spoke into it while glaring at the lines of heroes waiting for their moment in the spotlight. “Our victory came today because your most favored team of heroes RAN FROM BATTLE! YES, EARTH, THE HEROES YOU COME TO WORSHIP AND HAVE THE GUTS TO CALL THEMSELVES AVENGERS RAN FROM BATTLE. ONE LOOK AT OUR MIGHT, AND THEY CHANGED DIVISIONS, ALTERED THEIR ENTRY FORMS, AND PLAYED THE SYSTEM SO THEY WOULDN’T HAVE TO FACE US!”

The people in the massive audiences gasped and murmured, some even called out boos. The leagues below were shocked.

Metaphysic and DaMon tried to coax Midgardsormr off the stage, but the giant serpent shoved the heroes over and continued. “COWARDS! ALL OF THEM. THIS MEDAL IS MADE SWEETER KNOWING THE PITIFUL YELLOW STRIPES THAT MADE IT POSSIBLE. TO HELL WITH THE LEAGUES WE CRUSHED IN THIS WAR, IT WAS THE ONE WE DIDN’T FACE THAT TRULY ATTEST TO OUR MIGHT AND GLORY. THANK YOU, AVENGERS, FOR SHOWING US YOUR TRUE COLORS! NOW THAT I KNOW WHAT YOU TRULY ARE, I NO LONGER AM HERE TO DEFEND THIS EARTH, I THINK IT’S ABOUT TIME THE EARTH KNOWS THE POWER OF WMD-BLACK ORDER! AVENGERS, AVENGE THIS!” He threw the mic right through one of the holographic screens, destroying its ability to stay active.

With that, his league followed him off the stage and out of the arena. Most of the heroes there were not sure what to make of this. The Avengers sat, seething, one being held back by two others.

Chaz, EB, and Gar waited for Director Nova to say something. All watched this blustering announcement with a tinge of fear in their eyes.

“Sir?” Gar started. “What do you make of this?”

“I don’t know. The Avengers league did scramble in the end to change divisions, so not to face certain opponents. I didn’t expect anyone to make such a deal about it, but that Midgardsormr is never at a loss for attitude.”

EB asked, “do you think he’ll try something drastic. To show off.”

Gar asked, “would he go and attack the Avengers outside of League Wars?”

“I don’t know. He is hard to predict. He is often a lot more bluster than action. But he is not one to tangle with. We’ll just have to keep our eyes on him. I’m not too concerned just yet.”

Gar pointed out, “They weren’t the only ones who tried to use that loophole to change positions.”

“Regardless, this is just a contest. As long as they do their jobs and keep this planet safe, I don’t care what place they made in League Wars.”

Just then Chaz jumped when his console beeped. “Uh...what’s that? Oh, looks like a message.” He pressed a button on the computer.

Dr. Hostetter’s voice came over the comm, “Doctor Nova...”

“It’s Director.”

“Oh, sorry. Sir, we might have a problem. Come down to my lab.”

Heroes Rising Fiction: Tricking the Trickster Part 15.0

Director Nova and Gar stepped out of the elevator into the operations center. The open windows on the

primary screen were still displaying news reports from Earth and footage from around the station. The news reported on League Wars and speculated about the strange orange cloud that approached the planet, but vanished. The video feed from the League Wars Orbital Arena displayed the heroes arriving back from the battle with Spirit.

What Director Nova didn’t find was the reporter. “Chaz? Where are you?”

Just then Chaz stuck his head up from behind the console Nova had assigned him. “Is it safe?”

Nova frowned, “yes. Were you hiding?”

“Um...maybe. You left me here, I heard all this strange noise, and...well...Look, I’m just a reporter here to get an interview. And I had better get it after all this.”

Gar laughed, “hiding behind computers wouldn’t help.”

“It kept me from wetting myself,” Chaz admitted under his breath.

Nova let out a long sigh, “fine. You’ve done more than enough to warrant an interview. But only after we get some of this mess cleaned up. I’ve got a team of repair droids working on the station as we speak, but the operations droids are still out. I could use a hand here, if you don’t mind.”

“As long as nothing is going to kill me, I’m glad to help. Will make a good part of my article.”

“Fine. Just...” A white blur appeared out of nowhere and slammed into Gar.

EB lay flat on his back at Gar’s feet. “Ow.”

Gar frowned, “why did you run into me?”

“I’m not used to people being stone. Normally it doesn’t hurt like that. Oh, Nova, buddy!” He bounced right up and then hopped up and down in front of Nova. “You made it out with less bruises than most. Outstanding work. You’re really good at this. I mean, even I have some nasty bruises under all this fur, and I’m a dang-near immortal legendary creature. You...”

“What do you need?” Nova interrupted.

“Oh, right. Uh, before all this mess began. I talked with our friend down in the holding cell. I think he is part of this plan.”

Nova looked back at Chaz, “Holding cells, now!”

“Holding cells?” Chaz looked at his monitors.

Gar walked over and pushed the droid off the console next to Chaz. He typed in a command. The primary screen displayed the cell where Skelanimal should be. To their great relief, he lay there under a blanket.

“Oh, good. I guess he didn’t escape.”

Gar looked at the computer. “Strange. Power went out in that sector and only just came back on. The robot guards are still down.”

Nova scoffed, “that lazy idiot probably slept through this. Never even saw his opening to escape. But we should check on him.”

“I’ll do it!” EB went to run when the screen flashed on and the award ceremony for League Wars was starting….again. “OOOH, finally. I hear we had quite the upset this year.”

Nova waved a hand, “turn up the sound. I’d like to hear this.”

Chaz obliged, and they all watched the long awaited award ceremony. Hotwings stood at the center of the station with Midgardsormr beside him, as well as the others from his victorious league.

Robot 10915 walked up with an arm full of gold medals. He presented them one at a time to each of these victorious heroes. The announcer spoke for the crowds watching from Earth.

“It is with great pride that we finally get to decorate the victors of Division One of League Wars, WMD Black Order.”

Hotwings took a mic from the robot and spoke as he waved to the crowds. “It is with great pride that we accept this. Our opponents were fierce. I wanted to personally thank The Wizard for both contributing to this battle and for being instrumental in helping defeat the villain Spirit of...”

“ENOUGH OF THIS!” Midgardsormr shoved Hotwings aside....

Building UP, UP, and AWAY: Level 5

By Arcane Ace, Magic's Wildcard

ID: 23078

As I am starting out on my journey, building myself up with greater power, I want to share my thoughts with other new players.

To start with, I'm always asking myself when new choices arise the same question. "IS WHAT I AM DOING RIGHT?" Maybe it is better asked "IS WHAT I AM DOING BEST IN THE LONG RUN?"

Where should skill points go? What is better to do: Missions, Battles, Both? Do I spend Morphon points on gear or Power Cards?

For a new player, these questions will often come up. The truth is, they will keep coming up with every opportunity for a new power card, new item of gear in the armory, or new round of prizes in the Mystery Shuffle.

What I can tell you is your early levels are going to offer opportunities you won't have often. The choices here are smaller.

Let's start with Power Cards.

At level 5, you can have a maximum of 25 Power Cards of each type (RED-Attack, BLUE-Defense, GREEN-Movement).

When Purchasing Power Cards, there are three options for payment. BUX, Crystals, and Morphons.

  • Bux powers are available to purchase, but cost upkeep.
  • Crystal powers are not available at this level for purchase. They can be gained as awards or during events. (Such as completing the 100 Attacks achievement which earns a Mental Assault Power Card). These Power Cards have no upkeep cost.
  • Morphon Power Cards are large numerical cards which offer better value.
Let's evaluate the differences. If you had 25 of each of these cards, your base attack values would be:
25 Wrecking Ball Power Cards (Bux cards): Attack(200), Defense(75), Movement(50)
25 Mental Assault (Crystal cards): Attack(900), Defense(200), Movement(200)
25 Inner Light Power Cards (Morphon cards): Attack(2600), Defense(950), Movement(1075)

As you can see, there is a large difference.

Morphon are a earnable and/or a purchasable resource, depending on your personal preferences.
And, of course, different categories of cards stack their values. Let's say that you had 25 of each of the Morphon Power Cards for your character.
25 Inner Light: Attack(2600), Defense(950), Movement(1075)=1125MP
25 Selfie with Nova: Attack(1075), Defense(2525), Movement(1025) = 1000MP
25 Flash Step: Attack(1025), Defense(750), and Movement(2850) = 1300MP

That gives you a full Power Card base total of Attack(4700), Defense(4225), and Movement(4950).

These figures are based on the level one values for the Power Cards mentioned. Upgrading them fully adds to the Morphon expense, but nearly doubles most values.

Attack(8250), Defense(7425), and Movement(8700)

Calculating the maximum values of your Power Cards can give you a good picture of how your character might compare to other players around your level. Very few players will ever see all their Morphon Power Cards maxed out because it gets very, very expensive.

The best plan is to stay ahead of the curve between leveling and filling available Power Card slots with the best cards available to your budget.

As you level, more options open up with gear choices and Limited Time Offer Power Cards. For example, one of my favorite events is a BOOST event, when a new card is released and the power of the card increases as more and more are purchased. Just before League Wars: Haunted Heroes began, there was a RED Power Card, Spring Boost, that became available.

As you can see, the end results for values of Attack, Defense, and Movement are a bit higher for this BOOST Power Card that the cards available on the Powers tab. With boost events, there are limited quantities to how many a player can have of each card of one per character level.
Depending on timing, it is possible to get some good deals on great Power Cards, but at low levels, it will be some time before you can get many.

Between Power Cards, there is a general belief that MOVEMENT is king. Your DEFENSE ability doesn't come into play if your opponent cannot hit you in the first place. This is very true is good advice for effective play during PVP events. On the other hand, with the current methodology of RAIDS, a higher ATTACK value will get you more rewards. You will need to put your own personal preferences into consideration when making your choices for which card type to prioritize.

When I make it to level 10, I will speak more on Gear choices. My advice for right now it to spend your Morphons wisely. By now, without purchasing any Morphons, you should have in the area of 400-450 Morphons. That would be enough to purchase 10 Selfie with Nova Power Cards, or a combination of other Morphon Power Cards.

One last thought is don't stress too much about you're purchases. As you level, you gain slots for additional Power Cards. By level ten, with twice as many Power Cards available, you can easily redefine a character's scores.

My best advice is don't spend Morphons to increase the level of the cards you earn from Missions. Bank you're Morphons. Just because you can level something doesn't mean it is in your best interest to level it. Some Morphon cards are designed to be sold back for Morphons, like Reality Writer Power Cards. A general rule of thumb I use is that if the sum of the three abilities doesn't exceed 400, the card will more than likely be best resold at some point.

Until next time, I'm going to make like my beautiful stage assistant and disappear,
Arcane Ace

Player Art!

Player art time. I know what you're thinking. "Wasn't this a long time ago?" Yes, I know. I fell behind with a load of stuff this month and I apologize for the long wait.

This event started out as a challenge that didn't allow digital enhancements, only basic art. However, that turned out to be too much of a challenge, and it was vague. Thus, halfway through I returned the rules back to the standard set.

That all said, here are the entries for this event. Everyone did amazing.
