Adventures With Shadow Krampus

The Hanzo Ninja Clan Presents:

Adventures With Shadow Krampus
ID#25104

I can't be positive I was the 1st to encounter Shadow Krampus, but I do believe so. I was driving at the time. I don't recommend others drive and play at the same time, but in my defense, I'm a professional driver, often tasked with multiple tasks like looking at maps, talking with customers on the phone, and driving a large truck through Houston traffic all at the same time. I haven't had any issues in over 2 decades other than getting rear ended a couple times, ironically by people playing or texting on their phones. I also play the game so much, I pretty much can play by muscle memory at this point. But that's me. I still don't advise playing and driving at the same time to the normal driver.
When I 1st encountered Shadow Krampus, I had no idea what I had encountered. It was some new special patrol event. Despite being new, I didn't give much concern to it. I have 2 of the top toons in the game. Pretty much any non PvP aspect of the game is fairly easy for my toons. So I took a quick screen shot and hit "FIGHT", without much thought. He had 100,000 life!!!! Holy cow! Still, he couldn't be that hard, right? Just durable., I was sure. So I sped through the fight to move on and not only didn't win, I didn't even seem to scratch him. I might be exaggerating. It's possible he broke a nail hitting me, but I couldn't be sure with two swollen eyes. In shock, but still driving and unable to give much attention, I took another screen shot to analyze when it was safer to do so.
After getting home, I wrote Justin. For those who don't know, he's the owner and main developer for Heroes Rising and at least one other game. He gave me the skinny but not the fat of this new NPC villain. The skinny being it would be a random encounter found in any patrol, and was for high level players only. Later, through Todd Goode's questioning, we learned it was for level 700+ toons. Justin told me it would be very hard and something for players to work towards and look forward to beating. I told him I would have it beat before the New Year. He told me good luck but that he didn't expect anyone to beat it till well into the New Year, and that it was designed to give even the very best of us trouble. Challenge accepted.
I brought what little information I had to my leaguemates. Before anyone else seemed to have found him, I somehow found him again. Two times in 3 days. In all actuality, with as much as I patrol, that seemed to be the rate I was running into Shadow Krampus from when he first appeared till I finally beat him. Two times every 3 days. This time, I was able to catalog the entire fight. I used a TON of fight cons to beat him. I also had changed up my suit to battle his Supernatural Core we knew he was wearing from the screenshot of the 1st encounter. Oddly enough, instead of 100,000 life, he only had 70,000 life. Even with less life and my toon conned up quite heavily, I got my rear end handed to me on a Supernatural silver platter. Holy cow, was this guy tough!
I took all the screenshots of the fights and shared them with my leaguemates as I also studied the fight feed. I quickly deduced Shadow Krampus was using my own build style against me, but only in Supernatural. That, combined with the change in life made me think he was somehow mirroring the player toon's gear to some degree or another, possibly defaulting it to Supernatural. I went to Justin about my finds to see if I could glean any new insights. He assured me that Shadow Krampus wasn't copying the player toon's suit and had a set suit. I argued, pointing to the fact that he was using my same build style. Justin replied he wanted him to be tough. I then cursed him, telling him that build design is to fight tougher opponents, and Krampus was already the tougher opponent. And while I smiled at the hidden compliment, it still didn't make sense. If his suit was set, why did his life change? "Oops!" said Justin at this new revelation. It turns out that the difficulty level of Shadow Krampus accidentally got tied to the difficulty level of the patrol he was found on. It was supposed to be static......... I blew a bunch of cons against a god stacked deck........
Anyway, Justin fixed the issue. I ran into Shadow Krampus a few more times. His life went down to 30,000. But he was still nigh impossibly hard. I continued to gather screenshots and share them with my leaguemates as well as study them as well as I could myself. A second time with massive cons was attempted and failed. Then, my leaguemate Mike Gibbon beat him. He was the 1st. He built a massive Supernatural Resist suit and put on TONS of cons. Rakly Dominguez was the 2nd, managing to do so with only one con. At this point, I had kind of given up trying. I had already wasted TONS of cons twice for not. The prize ring, while epic, wasn't really something that fit in my build style. So I often just attacked with no thought to it, for awhile.
Next, Michael Brody beat Shadow Krampus. Something had recently changed though. Our toons had just had 3 gear slots added to their suits. This was pretty big. My odds of beating Shadow Krampus had just increased dramatically. I still didn't have faith in my current ability to necessarily beat Shadow Krampus, so I still didn't use any cons. I just built a suit based on what I knew of my opponent. My plan wasn't to win. It was to gain enough new information with the new gear slots added, to determine how many cons it would take to beat him. And then, to my surprise, I simply won without the cons.
At some point between when Rakly got his ring and and I got mine, one other player beat Shadow Krampus, but has not come forth to disclose who they are. I assume it is a member of WMD, but can't know for sure. Whoever it is, congrats. That was a tough fight.
Now, what we know about Shadow Krampus are as follows:
Life 30,000
Supernatural Core and damage.
Poison
Poison Resist
Stat Redux of each type around 35%
Stat Steal of each type unknown quantity
Stun
Stun Resist
Element Resists of 60.2%
That said, those who had the most success relied heavily on Supernatural Resist. He is heavy on stat redux and stat steal. That part will be tricky. I won't tell you how to combat that, because it's also my own style. But I will say you have to find a way to counter his ability to steal or reduce your stats. I advice a multi pronged approach to this problem. Next, you're going to need to be able to do lots of damage. There's a few ways to do this. Poison is a pretty effective one against high life toons, but will still be resisted quite a bit. Plus damage, if you have plenty enough, is almost always a sure fire way to get at least some damage in, provided you can hit him. Auras and Burn are going to be tough to fill enough to be effective against such a high life, high danger opponent, without sacrificing much needed effects elsewhere. He resists base element damage by 60.2%. So dropping your core and hitting him with unreduced X damage may help a lot. My toon has very little Plus Damage. I rely heavily on using unresisted, coreless, neutral X Damage often. I did so when I beat Shadow Krampus as well.
Good Luck, everyone. He's a bugger.

The Origin of the New Mythics - Chapter Two

by Doctor Mythos

ID#36143

Earlier in the day, New Year’s Eve

“After what happened here at the Hallows Port, is it wrong for us to expect more from our heroes than to simply fight, destroy, and then disappear to their haven in the sky above us all?” Ruby Sinclair asked from the podium, her arm stretched out to draw the camera’s attention to the ruins behind her. Hulls of hundreds of ships of all sizes and shapes littered the bay, even two years after Lady Phoenix’s attack. Or was it Krampus’s? Stories varied depending on the source, as most news reports did.

“It is difficult to believe that with all the abilities of the heroes and alien visitors to our humble planet more can’t be done to not only clean up their messes, but to also improve our world rather than constantly fight one another.” She pressed a button on her remote and a holographic image of several prominent superpowered individuals in battle appeared beside her. “This one frequently claims to be the bringer of the destruction of the world. This one was responsible for incalculable damages in North Onnotangu.”

She went on and on for several minutes referring to many notorious characters with clips of their wakes of destruction during battles. Then she switched to a projector on her other side, projecting images of other heroes. “I don’t want to be characterized as one-sided, so there are multiple individuals who truly do go above and beyond with their service to humanity. Crossroads saved a planeload of passengers from death during the Battle in Bursa. Last year, hundreds of heroes collected food and tools for displaced by the World Corps activities. After Las Vegas, Washington D.C., and Hollywood were decimated.”

Images of the destroyed streets and buildings in each area played to her audience of news journalists and gathered citizens attending her media conference. “Multiple cities destroyed. One food drive. Is that enough?”

In the crowd before her, a hand went up into the air. “Excuse me but is seems to me you are trying to ask for regulation of the activities for BADGE and the world’s heroes. In these times, isn’t that like pulling the police off the streets during a crime wave?”

“Impatient as ever, Mr. Hamilton,” Ruby replied. Possessing a doctorate in civil engineering, she made herself the forerunner in the newly created field of integration of powered individuals. “Questions were to be taken at the end of the presentation, but I will answer that one. The addition of enhanced Morphonic individuals to our society must be measured and evaluated to determine how best we can incorporate them and survive as a culture. If we don’t, eventually a new order will be imposed upon mankind as we know it by one or more of these individuals out of the theory that might makes right. Look at what the World Corps recently attempted under BADGE’s nose.”

“That’s unfair to say, Dr. Sinclair. BADGE did everything it could to put a stop to them and uncovered not only extraterrestrial but extratemporal interference by unknowable entities manipulating those in charge of the World Corps,” Chaz said forcefully. His role as BADGE’s official Sentinel News liaison clearly made him protective of the heroes of the world. “They have fought on behalf of humanity and the world far more than you give them credit for ever since Legion first appeared.”

The rest of the crowd grew quiet, sensing the beginning of a debate that would provide vital soundbites to share.

“They have. I am grateful for that fact-,” Dr. Ruby Sinclair leaned on the podium and brought herself closer to the microphone to punctuate her next statement, “-but that DOES NOT DO ANYTHING BUT PROVE MY POINT. Fighting. Waging war on other powerful beings. Why does having an enhanced ability only seem to result in fostering a need for conflict? For destruction?”

She leaned back from the microphone, searching the crowd to see if her comment struck a chord with any of the audience. She straightened the lapels on her business jacket, her hand brushing against a pin she had made from a broken piece of glass butterfly wings found in the jewelry inherited from her mother’s mothers’ estate. Just thinking of her grandmother emboldened her, recalling the emotional stories of building a new life after immigrating to America last century.

As if on cue, a temporal rift, similar to those on the BADGE Orbital Space Station last New Year, opened up next to Dr. Sinclair. Before anyone could call out to warn her, an armored arm reached out and grabbed her by the neck. Ruby screamed as she was pulled into the shattered aperture in reality and disappeared as it closed.

Origins of the New Mythics - Chapter One

by Myth-X

ID#36142

Mychael read the invitation again as he stood outside of the door to the Rho Alpha Delta, or R.A.D., fraternity house, wondering why he would have been summoned to join their New Year’s Eve festivities. He didn’t participate in any of their events during Rush Week. He didn’t know any members, that he knew of. In fact, before he got the letter, he never heard of the group.

“What do I have to lose?” Michael asked, emboldening himself to walk up the stairs to the front door. “Could be fun, right?”

The house was quieter than he expected as he walked up the stone steps, but the three-story house was constructed out of large stone bricks making it virtually soundproof. The stained-glass windows bore metal grates over them, giving the entire building a medieval cathedral vibe. Two upright mastiff figurines completed the aesthetic as they flanked the entrance like guard dogs.

If it weren’t for the flashing lights twinkling behind the windows and the long red carpet flowing from the door to the street, Mychael wouldn’t have believed any social event would be taking place inside. A hand-scribbled note on college-lined paper hung on a golden chain in the statue to the right’s mouth.

Music is loud. Don’t knock. Come on in.

If his flight hadn’t been canceled for his trip back home for the holidays, Mychael would never have been here. He far preferred quieter, more cerebral activities. Board games or trivia contests with his small group of friends. Playing poker and winning extra bux while fleecing entitled rich kids who had the funds to burn. Solving crossword puzzles from the Sentinel News’s all-time hardest collection his parents sent him for Christmas. Mychael ran his thumb over the lucky totem on his keychain kept in his coat pocket.

Even though luck couldn’t be proven by any mathematical equation he’d seen so far, he believed in it. Luck never guaranteed the certainty of good things, but it did explain some of the more unexpected results in his young life. Praying to it never hurt either.

Out of habit, he politely knocked on the heavy wooden door and waited for a response, which didn’t come, before opening it. As soon as it cracked open, loud music burst out into the quiet night air. If it had been possible, the stone statues might have winced as the wall of sound struck them. He recognized the song, a popular E.D.M. number called Heroes Rising by Darksound. A large group of people danced in the room past the small alcove of the entranceway, their hands bearing Solo cups of every color held high in the air.

Mychael slipped in and closed the door behind him, not that anyone seemed to notice him. He saw an empty set of pegs on the wall to his right, recognizing it as a place to hang garments. He moved his keys to his pants pocket and shrugged his coat off, grateful to find a place to hang it. The music continued to play loudly as the horde of people danced in the next room, which spurred a question in Mychael’s mind.

Why weren’t there other outside clothes hanging here with so many others in the house? And why could he hear the music but no other sounds coming from the party? No shouting? No calling out? No YOs, BROs, or F$&#s which were the nature of people his age?

Something grabbed his arms, pulling them behind his back as rough cloth engulfed his head. He struggled, but being more brains than brawn, he couldn’t break free. A strange, unpleasant chemical smell filled his nostrils, making breathing even more difficult within the bag tightly pulled over his face and taught at his neck.

12 Days of Christmas: Shuffles Past -- Day Twelve Reveal of Helm of the Hunt

The final door has been unlocked. The banner may not be showing on the main page, but you can still find the 12 Days of Christmas: Shuffles Past event on the Nova's Mystery Shuffle page under the Power tab.

Helm of the Hunt

I suppose it makes sense that for the last item in the Shuffles Past event, the gear offered does look like a set of reindeer antlers. If you are getting ready to go on a wild hunt, these are most likely made for you, cause these are definitely made to hit HARD. Don't forget your metal polish to keep these horns bright and shiny after removing the bloodstains and gore after eviscerating your target on the field of battle.

Incredible Strike +18% -- I've seen arm gear with those kinds of stats, but for a head slot item to go that high. WOW. Just wow!

Major Weaken Foe Dodge 5% -- How do you weaken a foe's dodge? By rending their armor off piece by piece making the soft flesh targetable. This helm is also known as The Can Opener!

Super Resist Physical +10 -- Who dares to get close enough to touch you other than the most bold? One sneeze and anyone in front of you might lose an eye. B-B gun not needed!

I hope everyone was able to make some good use of the 12 Days of Christmas: Shuffles Past event to better arm their heroes. Whether by fortunate spins or use of the new Exchange Tokens, adding additional gear options to your arsenal is a huge advantage.

If the holidays have kept you busy, there is still time to take advantage of the Morphon deals until New Years Eve and to get the 12 historic gear options until December 27th at noon.

May everyone keep the holiday spirit alive and well in their hearts for the last of 2022 and into the 2023 New Year!!! Don't forget there is a World Raid Event beginning on Friday. I'm sure Director Nova will put out a reminder of the need for all heroes to join in and defeat....???

12 Days of Christmas: Shuffles Past -- Day 11 Reveal of Boots of Clarity

Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas. The day is here. And what has Santa revealed under the tree but a pair of fantastic footwear that makes the murky waters of life recede and reveal your true path.

Boots of Clarity

While they don't look to be awe-inspiring, don't let the simple leather buckles fool you. With four powerful mental abilities imbued into them, these boots are made for bringing your foes to their knees.

Amazing Move +14% -- Step out of the way of attacks more easily with these on.

Amazing Weaken Foe Strike 15% -- Take a shot at making your foes lose the power behind their attacks.

Superior Weaken Foe Dodge 20% -- Bring down your opponents ability to dodge your attack at the same time. Talk about a one-two combination

Epic Resist Magic +30 -- You'll say "You must be popular with children" to those who attempt to put you under a spell. The Sanderson Sisters are bound to hate you.

All good things must come to an end and in 24 hours, the last Shuffles Past item will be revealed. Get ready to spin and put 2022 in the rear view window along with all these previously offered gear items. In one weeks time, a fresh NEW YEAR will begin. The question will your hero be ready for it?

Be sure to pay attention to the timing of these events as they depart the shuffle. Here is a snippet from the Nova's Mystery Shuffle page showing the current time schedule.

December 27th appears to be the cut off date for the event, so the final Shuffles Past gear item will only be available for less than two days on the shuffle, and potentially gone for Exchange Token purchases.

Fan-Fiction: "Humbug, I say. Humbug!" Part One

by Madam Marvelous

The debate ended up being quite fierce. Should the naughty be rewarded, just as the nice were by Santa Claus? At first, it was a polite discussion when the subject was proposed the world’s heroes, some against, but mostly for the idea. The supporters of the idea stated that withholding the holiday spirit from ‘naughty’ people would only serve to isolate those most in need of kindness, driving them to give into their darker nature. Opponents proposed that rewarding those who knowingly did wrong wouldn’t encourage better behavior but serve to weaken the resolve of those whose hearts were already nice.

I didn’t know which was right. Sitting and listening politely from my seat as the discussion became more passionate and heated for the staunch supporters of both sides, I didn’t see which individual threw the first punch. Within moments, standing on a soapbox became challenges to put up or shut up, and everything went south from there. What started as thoughtful conversation rapidly turned to fisticuff action which motivated BADGE operatives to direct everyone onto the grounds of the Stellar Arena as furniture began to be broken.

“Why should we let the bullies benefit?” Chained Angel, leader of the Star Force asked while dodging an airborne chair. She almost casually flicked one of her wings to knock it against a wall behind her rather than letting it his someone else. “Good deeds should be rewarded, not illicit activities.”

“Why withhold the Christmas spirit from anyone? Couldn't it cause more harm if they did?” Catalyst answered her query of his own.

I held back and avoided the chaos by shapeshifting into a puddle of water. As the other heroes departed to the arena, I headed to one of the station's observation decks. I needed time with my own thoughts. Why would Santa put this type of decision into the hands of BADGE and its heroes? How can anybody have control over the spirit of Christmas? Was there an actual Spirit of Christmas like there was a Spirit of Halloween?

The planet Earth looked so peaceful from space each time I viewed it from so high above. I sought out the North Pole while I marveled at the beauty, looking for inspiration to the right answer. Somehow, I lost track of time in the peaceful silence thanks to the soundproof materials used in the station’s construction. I didn’t even notice anyone approaching until a hand came down on my shoulder, startling me enough to physically jerk as if struck by a jolt of electricity, my attention pulled back to my surroundings.

“I’ve lost myself to better thoughts while looking out there as well, Madam Marvelous,” Director Nova said. He motioned for me to have a seat on a nearby bench as he continued. “The trick is to keep your senses on alert even if you’re mind wanders. You never know when an opponent will strike, even when you think you’re safe. I have only one eye to keep open, so if I can do it, you can learn the skill as well.”

My cheeks flushed as I moved and sat on the metal bench, embarrassed by being caught off guard by him of all people. “I’m sorry, sir. I’ll work on it.”

“I honestly believe you will, so fret not. Many of the animals you become have senses far more acute than those of humans, so be guided by their inherent techniques.” He pulled out his “I'm fortunate to have found you here. I thought we might have a word.”

His words surprised me more than his hand touching me seconds ago. Why would he be looking for ME? What else had I done wrong? “You wanted me? You’re not putting me back on probationary status, are you? Whatever I did wrong, I won’t do it again—”

“You’ve done nothing wrong. In fact, I believe you’ve done well enough I’m going to put you on a task your abilities and experience would be ideal for.” He smiled for a brief split-second before his face shifted to his more familiar scowl. “Unless YOU don’t think you’re ready for a solo undercover mission?”

I sat up as straight and proud as I could without changing my spine to solid steel. “I’m ready for whatever you need me to do, sir.”

“Good,” he said as he whirled around with a perfect military about-face maneuver. “Follow me. Krystal Fae will be remotely supervising the agent in charge, Agent Leslie. There is sensitive information they need to provide you on Earth at our New Amsterdam Field Office before you begin.”

As fantastic as it would be to work with her once again, I didn’t want to risk her supervision on a solo mission. Well intentioned as she might be, she had become something of a helicopter parent when it came to guiding others. New motherhood had its drawbacks. “Isn’t there a standard mission briefing I could read. I hate to bother her while she’s on leave.”

Director Nova kept walking toward the shuttle bay as I followed behind him “The situation is a bit more complicated than usual. Agent Leslie will impart the details to you, if all goes well.”

If all goes well? What did he mean by that?

MM<>MM<>MM<>MM

The doors parted to reveal an entirely white room. White floor. White ceiling. A pair of white reclining chairs that curved like only 1970’s furniture could. For an instant, I was tempted to lick the wall to make sure I hadn’t somehow ended up opening a door into the marshmallow dimension.

It could be a thing?

“You’re early,” Agent Leslie said from behind me as I looked in. “It’s good to see you again, Agent Marvelous. I hope you’re not as nervous as I am.”

I gulped back a big throatful of air before walking in. “I wasn’t, before you said that. How nervous are you?”

“Ummmm. A seven, maybe an eight. I’ve never done this before.”

“Done what?” I asked, half out of curiosity and half from a desire to find a reason to bolt.

“Imposed what is a telepathic glamor onto another being,” Krystal Fae said as she appeared in the room. Or an image of her at least, as her body had a ghostlike, translucent quality. A trick she employed on occasion when needing her attention to be in two places at once. “While you can make yourself into any shape you wish, she is going to apply a disguise to your mind so you can infiltrate a villain’s organization. We believe him to be engaged in a plan so dastardly and vile, one can hardly believe it.”

I stood at attention, seeing the telepathic projection of my former instructor. “What does he plan on doing?”

Miss Fae (or is it Mrs. Fae these days? Her husband may or not be around currently) stoically took her traditional position before me, levitating enough to be a head taller than my Madam Marvelous persona I kept at 6-foot, 5-inches. “Bringing Santa Claus and Christmas to an end.”

12 Days of Christmas: Shuffles Past -- Reveal of Day 10 Kung Fu Legs

Everyone loves Kung Fu Fighting meets She's got Legs in this mash up. Not only will you be fast as lightning but wearing these you will know how to use them. Whether you are Captain Underpants or used to going commando, grab a pair of these and put them on, not just because we don't want to see what your hiding down there. Because this is how you dress for success.

Kung Fu Legs

One of their biggest advantages is the bonus to damage on a gear option for a leg slot. The Gear Shop offers no options that grant that enhancement. They are out there, such as the Tornadic Trousers or the Starlight Trousers available earlier during the event, so get them while you can.

Superior Physical Damage +21 -- Check and see if you can get them in red so nobody can see the blood on them.

Strike +1550 -- Every increase helps.

Major Move +4% -- Moving is the best way to not be hit by an attack. Don't need a strong block when your opponents can't touch you.

Only two items left to reveal. I'm crossing my fingers they will be some of the rarer Nova's Mystery Shuffle items from Shuffles Past. Maybe if you post some of your wish lists to Santa of gear you haven't seen yet to the Players Page, your letter will be answered for Christmas Eve.

12 Days of Christmas: Shuffles Past -- Day 9 Reveal of Blessing of the Four Elements

Four elements. Four abilities. While this may look like a simple charm bracelet, it is a potential bulwark of protective wristwear.

Blessing of the Four Elements

As your abilities grow, the need to diversify is important. Raids deal in pure damage output. PvP demands more versatility. Building up your resistances to multiple damage sources becomes more and more invaluable as you progress. Add to that the ability to BAM!, SMACK!!, and WHOP!!! with a solid top tier damage modifier and a touch of bonus HP and you have a gem on the battlefield.

Amazing 3X Damage +15. Solid addition to your damage output improvement efforts.

Superior Live +20. Not huge, but enough to potentially save you from hitting 0 before your opponent.

Astounding Resist Magic +22. A substantial boon.
Incredible Resist Supernatural +18. Better than +17

Three doors left to be opened. Maybe the last three days will be some of the top tier pieces which have still gone unseen. Maybe not. Either way, these 12 gears will give any participating player a huge advantage in selecting what they get from the shuffle rather that being stuck at fate's whim.

But on the other hand, fate may be kinder this time of year with its gifts since additional options are in the shuffle. Just look at how Crossroads benefited earlier. This should make her happy in any dimension. Congratulations, Crossroads.

12 Days of Christmas: Shuffles Past -- Day Eight Reveal of Crown of Arcadia

Being able to hit hard is good, but being able to take the blow to your head and staying conscious is imperative. This supernatural crown may hold the key to your ability to do just that.

Crown of Arcadia

Many of the earlier options in the Shuffles Past focused on augmenting damage. This crown is a defensive jewel that keeps a hero in the fight longer.

Life +150 is a blessing for those with low HP.

Resist Physical +45 is a huge bonus to any fighter facing an opponent using Spiked Rings, Neutron Bands, or Morphonium Claws.

Awesome Stun Resist +25 is a great asset as well. Stunning a foe is a common technique used to defeat opponents who fight all out without thinking of how to defend. If you can't attack, you won't be doing much damage, will you? Stay in the game by staying awake during the fight.

12 Days of Christmas: Shuffles Past -- Day Seven Reveal of Krixian Wristband

Alien technology. We might not always understand how it works, but when has that stopped us for wanting it? Is it a FitBit? A wristwatch? A tracking device to help little green men find the 10% of the population that likes probing? Who knows?

Krixian Wristband

This is a good time to mention the glossary of gear effects found under the GEAR tab. From time to time, gear has been found with new game effects. Regeneration, Initiative, and various Poisons for instance. If you don't know how something works, check out the glossary to gain some insight on how to best incorporate it into your arsenal.

Remarkable Weaken Foe Dodge 8% isn't a consistent effect. 30% of the time, it will trigger and weaken a foe based on how strong your % effect is. Not great for raid events, but for weakening PvP foes, it might come in useful.

Major (4) Regeneration - Heal X amount at the start of your turn. Seems to work well for mouthy mercs and guys with metal claws.

Amazing Resist Elemental +15 - Resistance is an underappreciated ability for some heroes. Why fear the flame if you can walk through the fire without being hurt?

Seven items have been revealed so far. We are past the half way point of the Shuffles Past, so be sure to keep watching and participating. Happy Holidays!

News Flash: The Ceiling is a bit Higher Now

As our heroes continue to train, fight, patrol, and go on missions for BADGE, the world-protecting agency constantly tracks their progress. Some grow quickly, some slowly, but as time marches on, active heroes gain more and more strength. On the evening of December 19th, Slagathor held the top seat at Level 794.

Clearly, that did not sit well will one other hero.

12 hours later, I discovered when waking up that Midgardsormr not only overtook Slagathor but proceeded to gain enough experience to take the game to Level 800 for the first time!!!!!

Congratulations, World Serpent, Santasormr, or Muffin Man, whichever name you choose to go by.

That isn't to say that Midgardsormr and Slagathor were the only two heroes ascending the ladder in an attempt to break the so-called glass ceiling first.

~666~ B$C ♦♞♦, Starcrawler, and Cocaine Bear were also up near the top tier. It just goes to show anyone can try to be top dog, but it takes time, dedication, and a unfillable hunger to fight anyone and everyone under the sun. Look at these stunning numbers:

Midgardsormr -- 140469 attacking wins
~666~ B$C ♦♞♦ -- 220924 attacking wins
Starcrawler -- 195131 attacking wins
Slagathor -- 165150 attacking wins

And then there is Cocaine Bear... 5913 attacking wins. Clearly, someone is using a different technique. Bears don't fight, they maul and this one loves to snort.

If you are new to the world of Heroes Rising, or even if you have been around New Amsterdam a few times, check the profiles out on these heroes. Try to get their autographs. Learn from their advice. Give them their due respect.

Or get to it and be the first to get to level 1000.

When I first got to know these bunches of heroes, there were level caps. 400-500 was the limit. Current development has unleashed the ability to go beast removed the barriers. There are even signs of how the team has planned out the future, as seen here. Take a look at the final slot. A SECOND CORE.

Who's going to be the first to equip that slot. It could be you. It probably won't, as these heroes are closer at the moment, but their was a time a relic known as Hot Wings was the top of the heap.

Welcome to the ever changing world order. Tomorrow isn't guaranteed, unless you work for it. There was a day you couldn't swing a stick without hitting a member of the 5th Precinct. Leagues have come and gone. Heroes retire. Someone will need to be there when others fail or give up, so tighten your cape and have at it.

And Midgardsormr, as an FYI, your student and protégée Madam Marvelous has baked a cake for you in your honor. Not as many calories in this one as in the real deal, LOL. Enjoy Ragnarok.

12 Days of Christmas: Shuffles Past Day Six Reveal of Psychic Claw

I see great things in your future, hero, if you pick up a pair of today's newest choice in gear from the Shuffles Past event. Slip these on and you will feel more powerful than ever as you discover how to tear apart your opponent by turning their dreams into nightmares.

Psychic Claw

Let your fingers do the walking through memories where you can mine for clues to a villain's deepest, darkest fears. Use what you discover to turn your foe into a terrified mouse while you toy with their mind until just the right moment when you POUNCE and rend them from nose to toes.

Life +150 is a fearsome boost to your endurance.

Frightful Nightmare Aura +23 is nearly enough to put anyone into a mental ward. While not ideal for a RAID, this piece of gear will always be useful in PVP against mentally weak opponents.

Major Strike +5% helps to make sure the damage you do on the physical plane leaves a calling card of your astral visit.

For the next 6 days, foresee yourself to the Nova's Mystery Shuffle and make these yours. Or if you aren't lucky enough to get them, save up your Exchange Tokens and get them until the Shuffles Past event fades from your memory.

Player PoV: Don't Take It Personally

25104

Often I see players get upset they were attacked by a teammate or leaguemate. Sometimes even over people hitting them that aren't connected to them in any way. First off, this is a fighting game. Fighting each other is part of what we do here. It isn't personal. It's just game play. Fighting helps toons gain experience, which in turn helps make the toon stronger. You want your toon to get stronger. Likewise, you want your friends and teammates toons to get stronger too. Avoiding each other doesn't serve this purpose. It only penalizes you. Instead of hitting that toon, you have to hit one that gives fewer experience points. Now that's fine if you aren't trying to level, but if that's the case, you probably shouldn't be attacking anyone above level one anyway. If you are leveling though, and you avoid all your friends and teammates, before long you're missing out on hundreds or even thousands of experience points a day. I estimate that if I avoided all my teammates and friends everyday, I would probably lose out on a good 10k in experience points a day. That's a lot. Now, lower level players will miss out on less. I'm level 750+. But I think you get the point. Furthermore, losing a fight when someone attacks you, outside of events and tournaments, in no way harms you or your ability to grow and succeed in the game. The only thing it does is changes the vs score between your toon and that toon. That's it. That's nothing. Certainly not something to get upset about. In the top levels of play, friends and teammates attack each other all the time. They do this for experience as well as to test gear setups, and just generally hone their skills and knowledge. In fact, if I am testing a LWs suit and studying the fight feed to look for where it needs tweaking, it might be a better idea to attack a friend so my tournament opponents can't analyze my suit before I use it on them. If none of this still makes little or no sense to you, let's put it into a real world perspective. When sport fighters train for big matches or tournaments, they practice and spar with their teammates and gym trainers, their friends, guys they know, a LOT, before they ever step into the ring with their intended opponent. Those guys are friends and they're really hitting each other. Why? To get better for when it really matters. The same holds true for police and soldiers. They train against each other....... a LOT........ BEFORE they go fight the bad guys. If they didn't, the bad guys might wipe the floor with them. If you're not training with your friends and teammates, you're not properly preparing yourself to fight those that are.

12 Days of Christmas: Shuffles Past -- Day Five Reveal of Gloves of Hephaestus

Wait until you can feel the rich Corinthian leather used to make these beautiful gloves. Nothing but the best for our heroes. These aren't some glitzy knock-off, they are the actual gloves worn by the Greek god of all things HAND-crafted.

Gloves of Hephaestus

Look at that. Not 3, not 4, but 5 enhancements have been built into these. Talk about getting some bang for your MOO-lah. (Get it, they are made out of leather. Minataurian leather. Ouch!)

Super Life Bonus 11%. These scale up as your personal toughness increases. The higher your Hit Points, the more you get while wearing these.

Super Strike +11%. You will be able to pimp slap anybody with these on AND leave a mark behind for them to remember not to cross you. Rumor has it a certain mayor wears these, and only these, to bed at night, just in case he gets some late-night action.

Super Weaken Foe Strike 12%. That means 30% of the time, you won't have to repeat anything you said the first time.

Amazing Resist Physical +15 is that thick, but supple, leather taking some of the impact of your enemies blows.

Awesome Resist Elemental +25 means that those people who bought the Blizzard Boots or Tornadic Trousers won't be able to hurt you.

For the next 6 days you can get the gloves you want to be wearing when entering the ring.

12 Days of Christmas: Shuffles Past -- Day Four Reveal of Tornadic Trousers

Heroes with secret identities often have to be quick-change artists, getting out of one pair of pants and into some tights before they can fight crime. Not with these Elemental pants.

Tornadic Trousers

Not only to they keep your 'down there' area cool, they are great for baking and cooking. Who needs a Mix-Master when your lower body can twist and turn like a Tasmanian devil. Whipping up some eggs or literally beating super-villains couldn't be more fun.

Super Move +12% is a nice bonus from a pair of leg gear. 'Helicoptering' takes on a whole new meaning with these on.

Remarkable Block +8% helps keep your opponents at a distance, making them fight upwind to throw a punch or deflecting their ranged attacks.

Epic Resist Supernatural +30 is a very healthy dose of resistance. Put on two or more pair of these on and watch your opponent's head spin as they try to overcome your RPM.

Superior Elemental Damage +20 is nearly overdoing it. The Abominable Yetti won't be able to howl louder than you if you combine these with the Blizzard Boots available earlier in the event. Think how your opponents will feel as you build that Elemental suit you've always wanted to have.

For the next 6 days only, find these Tornadic Trousers in the Nova's Mystery Shuffle.

12 Days of Christmas: Shuffles Past -- Day Three Reveal of Blaster Ring

Gadgets. Gadgets. Gadgets. Where do heroes get all their wonderful toys? Starting today, they can get this fine example of technology added for Day Three of the Shuffles Past event.

Blaster Ring

Don't let its tiny size fool you. This Technology based ring isn't your ordinary joy-buzzer. Nope. Not at all. Any hero who has this on their digit (or other appendage, we don't judge here at the Sentinel News) will spell disaster all over their next target's forehead. That's D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R!

Epic Tech Damage +30 is respectable. Using this while practicing against Director Nova will make training unnecessary. It practically does all the work for you.

Excellent 3X Damage +7 works well with many other gear pieces, so get ready to synch them together for maximum results.

Epic Resist Physical +30 makes for a nice defense against pugilists, boxers, and those who fight with sharp claws.

Add this piece of gear to your utility belt and discover what it can do for you. Available in the Nova's Mystery Shuffle for the next 6 days only. If you don't spin and win one, you can get it for the next 9 days of the 12 Days of Christmas: Shuffles Past event with 5 EXCHANGE TOKENS.

12 Days of Christmas: Shuffles Past -- Day Two Reveal of Ring of Eternal Lifeforce

Who wants to live forever? You do, of course. And with the newly revealed magic ring during the Shuffles Past event, you just might.

Ring of Eternal Lifeforce

This ring is good for the wearer by not only adding to the wearers Hit Points, but also by sapping away the life force of your opponents while dealing a very non-healthy dose of pure Magic damage.

Life +90 is a substantial gain to help a combatant survive a fight.

The Magic Damage of +40 is a more than adequate dose of additional smack to any punch. For RAIDing, this ring will make Skelanimal or other villains vulnerable to that element cry for death as you beat them down.

Super Life Force Extract +10 isn't as reliable in fights as the other benefits of the ring, but when it works, it will tip the balance of the fight in your favor.

For the next six days, you can find the Ring of Eternal Lifeforce in the Nova's Mystery Shuffle and make your efforts more... precious.

12 Days of Christmas: Shuffles Past --Day One Reveal of Blizzard Boots

The first of 12 additional items to be revealed for the 12 Days of Christmas: Shuffles Past is...<drumroll by twelve drummers drummin'>...

Blizzard Boots

This elemental gear option for the boots slot is an excellent addition to any inventory. All three abilities are easy to understand and apply.

Amazing Move +14% may not be the strongest out there, but it isn't the lowest either.

Life +70 is on the lower range but is still enough to provide a useful boost during a fight.

Awesome Elemental Damage +25 is the biggest boon. The Atlantean Boot in the Gear Armory is only +6 Elemental damage. A boost of any damage type from a boot is always an asset for RAID events. Think of how fast you could kick the Abominable Yetti's keister while wearing a few of these arctic snowshoes.

Get your pairs of these Blizzard Boots in the Nova's Mystery Shuffle for the next 6 days or with Exchange Tokens over the next 12 days!!! You're hero's feet will thank you.

Discovering the Shuffles Past

by Chaz Hamilton

Ever since the first cave was found millennia ago, the urge for exploration found a home in our species. Soon after, the first treasure was discovered after a favorite bone axe or stash of food was uncovered from its hiding place. Sunken vessels, sacred tombs, money pits, and millions of other plunders sites became the X on someone's map.

Now, our heroes have the opportunity to claim long lost items to their inventory as the 12 Days of Christmas: Shuffles Past has begun. Useful gear long thought lost can now be obtained and added to a heroes arsenal for fighting villainy, or one another.

The question on everyone's minds: What's behind these doors?

First off, there are new items already available on Nova's Mystery Shuffle. These are all gear items previously available to win, but thought lost to players for all time once removed.

Are they all good? As with most shuffle gear, they could each be useful if equipped at the proper time, but some are more potent than others. What is good is the red button shown at the bottom of their card. For the first time, there is an option to be able to select the piece of gear in exchange for collectable tokens In fact, all the items in the shuffle are available to be selected and purchased with Exchange Tokens available to win on the Nova's s Mystery Shuffle. From 3 tokens up to 6 tokens in price, players have an option to shop.

For the holiday season, there is an option to gain 3 of these Exchange Tokens by purchasing a Special Package Deals on Morphons that come with varying Power Cards. These deals can be found under the Morphon tab on the main taskbar. This makes for a good opportunity to get a head start at picking a piece of shuffle gear that you particularly want to gain.

Each day, one door will open and a new piece of long-lost gear will become available and one will fade away once more, becoming available only to those with Exchange Tokens during the limited time of the 12 day event.

Take advantage of this with fore-thought, though. Don't spend your hard-saved Morphons all the first day. Watch for items that suit your builds if possible.  Each day will present a new, exciting possibility to make your character mightier that ever before.

I hope everyone continues to enjoy this holiday season, as there are still two more events to look forward to after the 12 Days of Christmas: Shuffles Past ends. Next week begins the Secret Santa Event, so get your gifts ready.

Game Guide: MORE .... FRIENDS

BY: Todd Goode id# 12205

"Friends .... How many of us have them? ... Friends ...Ones you can depend on ... Friends ..."

Oh, hi. Ya'll caught me jammin. Since ya'll caught me jammin out about friends, let's talk about them for a moment.

Let me snag this line from a song from say back in the day when I was still a youngin. 'Friends' came out in 1990 by Whodini, and the first verse goes a little like this. Sing it if ya know it. "Friends .... How many of us have them? ... Friends ...Ones you can depend on ... Friends ..."

How many of us have them and how many 'MORE' of them do we need in the game. The answer is, as many as we can get and 'MORE'. The 'MORE' friends' the better. How do you get them?

Well, it's pretty easy for the most part. All you have to do is send an in-game friend request, better known as 'Send Teammate Request' button on the players profile page.

Why do you need em? "Friends"? Well, they make you stronger. For every teammate "friend" you have, you will be able to use 5 of their strongest attack power cards, 5 of their strongest defensive power cards and 5 of their strongest Movement cards.

Your team size cannot be higher that your level. So, if you are a level 649 player for example, you can use 3245 attack power cards, 3245 defense power cards and 3245 movement power cards. All from your "Friends". That's a big chunk of power you don't have to pay for. Only your "Friends" strongest cards will be automatically selected to be used with your decks. It's good to know this kinda stuff.

So basically, you want all the "Friends" you can get. Also, you can have more "Friends" than you need per level. They'll have to wait in the wings so to speak and be added to your power decks as you level up. They'll be there when you need them. "Friends ... How many of us have them? ... Friends ...Ones you can depend on ... Friends ..."

Be honest, if you know the song, you were singing along while reading it. No shame in ya game, It's a killer song. Now, how are you gonna get them?

This is what you need to be doing. Go to the battle tab and click it. Jump to the highest-level toon and start teammate/friend requesting there. Click on the first player's name in the list and go to their profile page and click the "send teammate request" button. Next click the battle tab and click on the next name you see. Wash, Rinse, Repeat.

No lie though, its gonna take pretty much a whole day to friend request every player in the game, maybe more but if you work your way down to level 80-90 and click that "Send teammate request" button, you will get more friends than you need for a while.

Now, it's important that realize this, especially if you are new player. Some battle lists have "MORE" than one page. From the highest-level player down to level 80-90, there may only be one page of names but from level 1 to 80ish each level will have multiple pages to friend request. So, after you finish page 1 of level 1, you need to click the "MORE" button to see the next page of level ones and so. You will find more friends than you thought possible.

So, work on friend requesting them all and everybody. You will help yourself and also those around you and enjoy the strength increase for those who do not have many friends yet.

December FANFICTION: Joan of Arc THE KIDNAPPING

ID: 35981

As Danny put the kidnapper in the back of his police car, I checked Ashley to make sure she was okay. “Thank you, lady, you saved me from the bad man thank you so much you’re my hero. “She said while suddenly leaping up in the air hugging me tightly. “Your safe now,” I said her mother ran over yelling with relief. “ Ashley Ashley, your okay my love, I was so worried!” Her Mom said while squeezing her tightly. “Joan, we got get to station question and squeeze what info we can out of this cockroach till spills where other kids are being held captive.”

We got in the car and headed to the station. The kidnapper yelled in the back. “When I call my lawyer you, he will have your badge mark my words!” “Piped down back there you will cough up the location of the remaining missing kids or so help me I will lock you up in a freezer and turn you and into a frozen popsicle.” We are here, you better spill the beans.” Danny said while he got out of the car. He tightly grabbed the kidnapper and went into the station. I followed closely behind to a small room with two chairs and a table. Danny handcuffed his hand to a ring in the center of the table that was bolted on. “As he did, he said with confidence. “You’re not going anywhere.” The Kidnapper smirked.” I’m not talking to I have my phone call I want to talk to my lawyer.” “Gave the man phone the phone and stepped out of the room I followed. “I don’t understand why aren’t we questioning and getting answers.” Believe I would love to put the man to the screws but rules and laws state has the right to representation even though lowlife cockroach who preys on children.” Danny and I looked through a one-way glass window that showed in the. The kidnapper appeared upset and pleaded for help and then hung up the phone. We stepped back into the room. “Well, is your lawyer coming?” Danny asked. “No Mr. Nahas is unavailable the secretary said.” Well, guess we can call you another attorney or we you can come clean and tell us what you know, and maybe we can make a deal on your sentence.” Sean go take this cockroach to a cell.” “Okay Dad.” the young cop said. “Dad?” How many family members of your family member are cops?” I asked. “Well, sort of a family business and tradition.” Wait wait, I’ll talk I want to make a deal! The kidnapper yelled when he was being dragged away. We pulled him back into the room and closed the door. “Okay Spill address names now.” Danny handed the man a piece of paper and a pencil. I glared at the man and clenched my fists. “I told take kids I grab to a Warehouse at the mouth of the East River by pier 17.” Danny after hearing immediately grabbed his radio and called. “Dispatch units to pier 17 for possible kidnapping and hostage situation.” Go take this man to his cell Sport. “Yes sir,” Sean said. “Let’s roll out,” said Danny. We ran out of the building to the car. Danny drove like a madman. “Hang on hopefully find them and get these animals and lock them away.”

When we arrived the other cops already had the warehouse surrounded. One cop approached Danny. “No sign of anyone. Just as he said this a cop over the radio said. “There is a semi-truck pulling out of the garage.” MOVE IN!” yelled Danny. As he and I ran.” He took out gun and I took out my sword. We rushed to the garage. I stepped toward the cab of the truck the other cops had already surrounded the truck guns aimed at me. I pulled the driver out of the truck to the ground. Danny approached a said. “Where are the kids.” I held my sword to the man’s neck. “Will ask you one more time where are they.” I said. “The man said you too late there gone we move locations and soon they will far from here.” Just then a cop ran up to Danny yelling. “Its brother it is urgent.” Danny Grabbed the phone. “What going on Im at the warehouse we didn’t find any of the missing kids.” “Slow down, WHAT! Someone grabbed Michelle at the park.” Is Eddy your wife, ok?” Danny hung up and began balling in tears they took my niece sweet little Michelle the %@#$^ *@%$” “Will find her, will find all the kids. TUG-OF-WAR BALLAD

By Furious Squirrel #12351

Twas the night before tug-of-war
and all through the game
Heroes prepared for fighting
But it wasn't the same

Saint Justin had come
And given us hope
That the game wasn't done
It's on an upward slope

Now I prepared my powers.
My gear and my stats.
I set up my avatar
Bought him a new hat

I ran to the front page
To check for the news
I was ready for some rage
I laced my butt-kicking shoes

I was on team Nice
What a fun place to be
It is like it is a slice
Of how it is to be me.

Unlike other players
Who enjoy being evil
I am always a good guy
Never the nasty little weasel

Don't get me wrong
I have to say
Those who sing an evil song
Are fun to play

But being naughty, I'm not
One for such a path
I'd rather be nice
It isn't a hard math

So I prepared my fists,
My powers, my guns
This is going to be a twist
I'm ready for some fun

Twas the night before tug-of-war
Victory will be sugar and spice
For we shall decided
Who's naught and who's nice

Naughty Vs Nice: The official Story

Chase watched as a team of heroes battled against a hologram of Nova. Quark had worked with BADGE engineers to rebuild one of the empty labs on the second floor into a viewing room. They had made one wall into clear, superpower proof plastic. Stadium seating allowed for a nice, comfortable viewing, and the concessions were always free.

EB hopped into the room, “Hey, babe, whatcha watchin?”

She pointed at the battle. “Six heroes are currently battling the Nova simulation.”

He plopped down in the seat next to her and wagged his feet around. “I love that new simulator thingy. It’s a hoot to watch. I can’t believe Nova let them make a hologram of him to beat up.”

“I was surprised as well. But I think Justin had some good points about newer heroes having something less threatening to battle.”

He grinned. “I ran the Skelanimal simulation by myself last night. Beat him single-handedly. I was like a GOD out there.”

“And you turned down the difficulty rating.” She stated as she cringed when a hero took a hard smack across the room.

EB pouted. “I thought I hid my minor alteration.”

“Oh, I wouldn’t have noticed, except a team came this morning to use that simulation. They killed Skelanimal in two hits. You forgot to turn it back up.”

“Oopsie. Oh well, I suppose it gave them a little boost in their ego.” They both cringed when the Nova hologram grabbed a hero by her cape and slammed her into a pillar. EB jumped up on his seat, “Hey, you know, it’d be awesome if we could televise this. You know, make it a sports program like Pro Wrestling. Only this wouldn’t be all faked. It’d be real...sorta. And, we could even market toys, a home game, candy...oooh, candy. I could make a special More-Fun bar that is tolerable for non-morphonic people. It could be like an energy bar, but WAAAAY better. You know, most energy bars taste like carpet lint mixed with dog food. YUCK! I could make my chocolate with nuts, honey, berries, more chocolate, then...”

“EB, what did you come to see me about?” Chase stopped his rambling.

“Uh...I...uh, wait, it’s on the tip of my ears....uh. OH RIGHT! Santa wanted to see you.”

She frowned at him. “See me? Is he here?”

“Yup. He’s in the second level meeting room.”

Chase was up in a flash. “Why didn’t you say that to begin with?”

“Dunno. Got caught up in the action and being alone in the same room with a hot babe.” He grinned at her.

“Ugh!” she retorted and raced out.

Chase darted through the station, furious at EB for making her adopted father wait. She stopped and pressed her BADGE ID up against the door panel next to a basic meeting room in the public sector. It opened and the scent of hot cider and a fireplace met her.

“What the?” She stepped in.

The world around her changed. She was now standing in the comfortable sitting room inside Santa’s workshop. The room looked like it came right off of a Christmas card. Wood timber walls, heavy wooden furniture with plush, crocheted pillows on each seat. A pine Christmas tree sat in the corner, decorated in blown glass ornaments with popcorn and red berries strung around. A glittering start sat on top with presents underneath. In fact, the presents made a massive pile that filled nearly half the room.

Santa sat in one of the comfortable chairs near the fire as he read over a thick scroll of names.

“Dad?” Chase walked up.

He set aside the scroll, and his rosy cheeks plumped into a brilliant smile. “Chase, dear, I’m so glad you made it.”

“Why am I here? In fact, how did you do this?”

“Just a simple transportation spell, nothing difficult. Only works on stable locations that are safe.”

“Okay?” She came over and gave him a hug. “It’s always nice to see you, but why did you call for me?”

He gestured toward the chair across from him. “I have a problem I was hoping you’d help me with.”

***

Nova watched the monitors in the Operations Center of the station. There was a new window among the many on his screen, a list of people waiting for their time in the simulator. He wondered if they shouldn’t build more, perhaps even some on Earth.

“Sir, we have two transports coming at the same time, and the docking robots mixed up the schedules.” Justin handed Nova a tablet.

“Nothing to worry about. Just reset the program and tell the shuttles they’ll have to wait.”

“Got it.”

Chase walked in from the elevator with a hot cup in her hands. “Oh, good, you guys are already here.”

Nova sniffed the air and frowned. “Apple Cider, and if I’m not mistaken, that smells just like the kind Santa makes.”

She sipped her piping hot cider and smiled. “You have a good nose.”

“I’ve known your father a lot longer than you. What did he want?”

“He has a request for the heroes.” She joined him and Justin at the front of the room.

Justin pulled up a list on his tablet. “So, we’re back to the volunteer season. I suppose we can send out a sign-up for the heroes who will accompany Santa on Christmas Eve.”

“Well, it isn’t the normal request from him. He has a special request, though it does have something to do with gifts.”

Nova asked, “What is it?”

“You know my father doesn’t really give out gifts, he gives out the Holiday spirit so that people give each other gifts.”

“I told you, I’ve known him a long time. I know how he operates.”

She said, “His operation changed this year. EB convinced him to do actual gifts.”

Nova had a hand on his face. “Why is it always EB?”

“Don’t be so hard on him. EB had a good idea. The world is still timid and recovering from the World Corps situation, so a real, old-fashioned Christmas with real gifts might bring much needed cheer to the planet.”

“I suppose that’s a good idea. But where did it go wrong? With EB, his ideas always go wrong.”

“Hey!” EB hopped up on a console, which caused the other three people to jump.

“When did you get in here?” Nova demanded.

“I was on my way when my ears started burning and then I hear you guys talking smack about me.”

“I wasn’t.” Chase said.

“That’s my honey bunny.”

“Call me that again and I will burn the rest of you.”

“Party pooper.”

Nova held up his hand. “Enough of this. What’s the problem?”

Chase said, “Santa decided it was a good idea and went with it, but he had to get ahead of his normal list if he was going to have enough physical gifts for everyone. That means even those who don’t qualify for the nice list have gifts waiting for them.”

Justin said, “So, you mean the naughty list also has gifts made for them?”

“Precisely.”

Nova asked, “What’s the problem?”

“Santa has a LOT of gifts that are undeliverable if he stays true to his naughty list not getting anything. However, he wants us to make a big decision. Deliver them to the naughty people or give extra to the nice people.”

“Why ask us to make the decision?” Nova said.

Chase answered, “In either case, his gift delivery is going to go up tremendously, and he’ll need a lot of help to deliver them. So, since we are being asked to deliver the extra, we can decide who they go to.”

“They should go to the nice people.” Justin said. “They are nice, so they get rewarded.”

EB hopped up and down on the console. “No, give them to the naughty people. Being nice to a naughty person might help them learn to be nice. Get it?”

“EB has a good point, but I don’t know.” Chase said.

Nova clicked his comm, “I think we’ll see what the heroes think, naughty or nice.”
