Heroes Rising Short Fiction: Strange Portal

Nova walked down from his office to the main floor of Operations. A steaming cup of coffee in one hand and almost a smile on his face. Gar was on duty, watching over the station through the night.

“All quiet,” Gar stated.

Nova took a sip of his coffee and then asked, “Has Agent Justin reported in?”

“He has not. He isn’t due to report for another hour.”

“Good. When he...”

Robot 10915 said, “Communication from Agent Justin, emergency line one.”

“Put him through.” Nova turned back to the screen.

Justin appeared. "Nova, good. We have a situation."

“What is it? Don’t tell me the tear in space is open again?”

“No. I was inspecting the area and found nothing out of the ordinary. Lady Echidna is soundly bound deep. However, using these new spectral sensors, I picked up another tear in space.”

“Where?”

“It’s in the station, or I should say the station is passing through where the tear is showing up. If I am reading this right, it should be on Deck M.”

“The Mess Hall?” Nova frowned.

“Yes.”

“Get back here, now. I want that sensor on this station. Meet me on Deck M as soon as you get back.”

“Aye, sir.”

Nova turned to Gar, “You have Operations. I will head down to see what the hell this is.”

The Mess Hall was noisy as usual. BADGE officers, heroes, and a few trainees were having breakfast. A robot tried desperately to manage a few younger children who had super powers. It was so uncommon to see Nova around here that most people stopped to look at him as he passed their tables.

Arx walked up, holding a large cappuccino. “Sir, is something wrong?”

“Yes. Have you noticed anything... unusual today?”

“EB made another pass at Chase and she didn’t threaten to neuter him.”

“This is serious.”

“Sorry. No, nothing to report.”

EB ran in from a hallway and looked around. He seemed to look for something.

“EB?” Nova and Arx walked over to him.

“Oh, hey buddy.”

“Don’t tell me you heard what I said? You were in the training room.” Arx replied.

“I’m sensing something is wrong. There is something happening in here.” He looked around for a moment.

Everyone noticed a blue flashing light from inside the arboretum.

“That has to be it.” Nova left them and hurried toward the entrance.

Arx and EB followed. EB said, “And, I heard you. Hello, bunny ears!” He pointed at his head.

“Oh, sorry.”

They left the metal station for the grassy sprawling park of the arboretum. In the middle of the open grounds, a flickering blue light appeared in the middle of the air.

“What is that?” Arx asked.

EB said, “That feels like a rip in space.”

“Good senses,” Nova examined it from afar. “That’s precisely what it is. And I don’t like it being here.”

“How did it get here?”

“I can explain, at least some of that.” Justin walked up with a bulky scanner in his hands. “The top layer of space has had extreme stress from the gravimetric distortion of the recent tear from Lady Echidna. Subsequent gravitational waves have caused instability in the event horizon of the original rupture. That has led to further instability across the area. Influx of verteron particles have condensed the disturbance into a compressed anomaly, which has created another tear, which is becoming increasingly unstable.”

EB clapped, “Wow, that was pretty good. Nice analysis.”

Arx said, “All I heard were a lot of big science words.”

EB said, “What it all means is that the big hole that Lady Echidna ripped has caused some problems, and they all came together to create this. Which is another hole in space.”

“Oh... wait, how did you know that?”

EB scoffed, “I was traveling in starships and learning about space before Galileo was born. I’m technically a space alien.”

Nova said, “What I want to know is how we close this. I don’t want another gateway for god knows what. We barely survived Lady Echidna.”

Justin said, “I don’t know, sir. The last tear took Midgard to close and he... sacrificed himself to make that possible.”

Nova looked at Arx. “Get your ATLAS teams ready for this. We might have an invasion or something worse. EB, I want this station evacuated and locked down. Justin, have Dr. Henderson and all the other scientists looking at the data and find answers. MOVE!”

A blue hand reached over and held a glass of wine in front of Nova’s face. Strange Quark said, “Cool it, you’re gonna burst a blood vessel. Have some of this. It’s a good year.”

“Quark! Where in the world did you come from?”

“I was minding my own business, being a duck, swimming in a pool filled with whiskey... fantastic stuff at that, then I suddenly felt this disturbance in the space force.”

“Can you provide answers?”

Quark walked up to the disturbance. He peered at it, then paced around it, and finally walked right through it. For a moment, Quark split into five different-colored Quarks...one even had white feathers covering him. They looked at one another and waved, then he stepped back out and his doppelgangers vanished.

“What you have here is a tear in the spectral lens.”

“The what?” Justin asked.

“There are different universes spread across the quantum continuum. We are but one of them. Keeping them apart is a force that is hard to define. Let’s just say it keeps us from seeing each other. However, the rip in space and all the mess out there has created a fracture in that barrier. Now, we have a glimpse into the multiverse. It really isn’t that dangerous, though if it keeps expanding it will wipe out all existence on Earth.”

EB said, “Not dangerous, but it could kill everyone! That makes little sense.”

“Okay, so here’s the deal. If we contain it, give it a frame so it will have a boundary. It will stop expanding and settle.”

“Can we make it go away?” Nova asked.

“Nope. This is one tear that will stay. It might fade and disappear for a while, but it will show back up.”

Justin asked, “How do we contain it?”

“Create a gateway to put it in, one that is lined with anti-matter. Anti-Matter cannot cross into other universes, and other universes cannot cross it. So, it will contain it permanently.”

“Can we do that?” Nova asked.

Justin nodded. “I think so. But we’ll have to work fast. This thing is expanding as we stand here.”

“Then move!”

Several hours later, a team of robots walked into the Arboretum with a large archway. They set it up near the larger tear and slowly moved toward it.

“Nice and easy, boys. That’s our only gateway.” Quark said.

Nova, Arx, EB, Chase, and Gar watched from a distance.

“Are your teeth chattering? Mine are.” EB asked.

“Don’t fret. This will work,” Gar said.

“We hope so,” Chase added.

EB said, “If this is the last of our time, and all this universe is about to be eaten by that portal, I just want to ask for one thing.”

“No.” Chase said.

“Just one kiss?”

“No.”

Bright flashes of blue light flickered for a moment. Everyone put their hand up to their eyes and even Nova looked a little worried. However, the light stopped and turned to a gentle glow as the tear filled this archway and became stable.

“There you go.” Quark said.

Nova walked in, a little caution to his gait. “Are you sure this is good?”

Quark knocked on the side. “It’s firmly in place. You can even move this arch and take the tear with you.”

“Good, I don’t want this in the middle of the arboretum.”

“Can we go through that and check out other universes?” Arx asked.

Quark said, “Yes,... and no. If you step into another universe, you will step into another version of yourself. You will know who you are, but you won’t be the same. Once you return here, you will assume you original form. Does that make sense?”

Chase said, “Hardly anything with you makes much sense.”

“That’s the best compliment I’ve received in ages.”

Nova said, “Okay, Justin, find a suitable place for this and keep it under constant monitoring. We will consider the best use of it. Until then, the arboretum is off-limits.”

“Got it.”

Everyone walked out to get back to their normal duties, and Justin explored sections of the station, searching for the right location.

Hours later, as the station orbited the dark side of Earth, the Arboretum basked in the bluish glow of the portal. There was a flickering, and a hand came through and gripped the side, pulling the person into this universe with a great thrust. Mostly made of energy, the being sniffed the air and then said, “So, I am dead here. Good. I can be anyone I want.” The glowing person melted away, the energy passing through the decks and flying toward the Earth.

A Ballad of Balances

ROSA

Rosa completed her second lap, her tracking device held in front of her. She looked up and down at the series of buildings that she passed, watching for anything out of the ordinary. The device's buttons flashed green, and the numeric display remained at a steady 1.0. So far, nothing either visual or otherwise, to suggest any presence of what she was looking for.

"I honestly think they've been fully rooted out and disbanded," came the voice of her godfather on Rosa's comms.

"You're probably right," Rosa sighed. She continued her slow paced walk. The only trace of anything World Corps-related over the past couple months was the rare discovery of an old bunker, sometimes containing AMA parts, but more often than not, completely gutted and an empty husk. Justifiably, BADGE resources were laser-focused on the threat from Echidna; but there were several independent groups - Rosa's among them - that continued to investigate the remnants of any World Corps forces. The last thing anybody needed was to see their resurgence.

"If they're gone though... then what?" asked Rosa. "If Trailene was among those entranced by Lady Echidna, what next? Do we get the band back together?"

"I've thought on it a lot, Rosa. As has your mother, as has Aflima," came the soft response.

"I... trust you guys completely," said Rosa, trying to hide her doubts.

"Yes, but you're also a grown woman now, Rosa, and your insight is just as valuable. Don't think of yourself as a kid always needing guidance. You've found your niche, your role. And not too long ago, you proved you're fully capable of handling your own business. What do you think?"

Caught off-guard, she paused.

"I think I'm not going to rest easy until we know the truth of Trailene. Preferably alive, and locked away," she shrugged.

"I'm happy you're honest with yourself, although I'm sad this burden still weighs on you. Just don't let it send your anxiety and stress levels sky high," said the voice on the other end.

They soon said their goodbyes - with a promise to meet up soon. Rosa disconnected and continued onto her third and final lap of the course she plotted out. The tracking device showed zero change.

She soon sensed the presence of someone nearby, then smelled a faint aroma. It was oddly pleasant. She turned around, smiling.

"Hi, Krystal!" Rosa said, delighted.

"I was in the area and spotted you across the bridge," said the red-haired female, known to most as Krystal Fae and once known in another realm as Acidburn, to her friend. "You look well, but you were certainly the picture of concentration and determination a minute ago."

Rosa shrugged, but her smile didn't dissipate. "Krystal! How is baby Guinevere?"

"Baby?" laughed Krystal. "My word, she is definitely not a baby anymore. Her growth is that of a raging river. One day you'll have to see her in person."

"I'll hold you to that promise. Meanwhile you look young still, maybe younger! Almost too young to be a whole mom!"

"That's very kind of you, Rosa. To be fair though, the aging process of fae is somewhat different than of humans. People have speculated and theorized on the differences for centuries, but even among us, there are differences and variations."

"Back in S.H.C. I don't think you were much older than me, but even though you look young, you still are miles more mature... and wizened. I wish I was wiser," Rosa confessed.

Krystal snapped her fingers gently. "Wisdom isn't some finite marker in one's life. It's ever growing and I wouldn't want you or anyone to fix themselves on trying to get wise before their time. Remember that."

Rosa smiled, then hugged her friend. "I promise I won't rush."

---

Quite a distance away, Sticks had a long-range scope focused on Rosa's ongoings. His sniper rifle was slung across his back in plain sight, but there was nobody in the vicinity to notice the potential assassination.

"Do not engage," came Trailene's voice. "Just monitor. Let her complete her task then report back."

"Ten-four," Sticks replied calmly. His smirk was huge.

OOC: The memory of Chris Evans, creator of Krystal and Alex, will long remain an inspiration to myself and I believe many of the other current RP and fan-fiction writers in this forum. I wish we could have chatted more about the things that unite us when it comes to story-writing, art and the games in which we interacted over the years. Rest well.

Fan-Fiction: Easter Village... or Groundhog Day?

It was a beautiful, brisk and sunny day outside the training dojo. Tri-blade wasn't usually one to stop and smell the proverbial roses, but the atmosphere felt so pleasant that he took a more leisurely walk towards his training site. For the past couple of weeks, he took at least one day a week to walk a couple of miles to this tucked-away location not far from New Utopia City but not particularly well-known. He was on good terms with the manager, and it was easy to book morning sessions, without interruption from fellow metahumans or the paparazzi.

His comms buzzed just as he entered the dojo. He smiled but continued to set up the workout equipment.

"Aye, what's up?"

"Oh, it's that time of year, huh. Guess I better not settle down too much, that rabbit has a habit of whisking people at the strangest time."

He looked at his weapon holster, currently mounted on a set of hooks on the wall, then resumed wiping down a bench.

"I don't know how that bunny is able to tag every BADGE-registered person, but at least nowadays the veterans among us are expecting it and can prepare accordingly."

"Yeah, it's a bit inconvenient to say the least,... but he means well. And the children love the hoopla about the eggs and chocolate... what's that?!"

Tri-blade whirled around at the sound of rustling behind him, arms already held forward defensively. Tri-blade looked at a man, clad in a silver-coloured helmet, battle gauntlets and light metal boots that covered his lower legs. Around him, energy crackled mightily, and was most heavily concentrated in loops around the set of claws he wielded in each glove.

It was an unfamiliar look, but there was no doubt as to who the interloper was.

"Um, Shinobi?" he asked. He ignored the voice on the other end of the comms asking what was going on.

Shinobi nodded, then dropped one of his claws, only to pick up a bamboo basket.

"Glad I found you so quickly. Now. LET'S DUEL!" He lunged in, quick as a mouse, and Tri-blade barely avoided a strike from the swinging basket.

"Shinobi, what the devil, I'm not even -"

A basket materialized in his right hand.

Realization hit him quickly. "Oh."

They engaged, but the battle was not at all what Tri-blade expected. Over the past year, Shinobi's strength had surged while Tri-blade's held steady. Ordinarily, his one-time rival would have flattened Tri-blade 99 times out of 100 without breaking a sweat, but Tri-blade found himself holding his own, albeit with baskets replacing their usual weaponry. After a few minutes, Tri-blade struck a decisive blow, sending Shinobi tumbling against the wall. He collapsed, then rose to his feet, giving a ceremonial bow.

"Until next, time, friend," said Shinobi, before throwing a Flash Bomb to the ground.

Tri-blade groaned, but the smoke cleared quickly and he found himself alone again.

"Sorry, you still here?" Tri-blade called out to his comms unit. "I fear this is going to be one of those kinds of days -"

"Wait a minute!" shouted Tri-blade.

Shinobi already had a basket in his hand. "Glad I found you so quickly, Tri-blade. Now. LET'S DUEL!" He lunged in, quick as a mouse, and Tri-blade barely avoided a strike from the swinging basket.

Tri-blade looked quickly at the basket still in his hand, and sighed. "Guess I'll have to talk to you later, this is definitely going to be one of those kinds of days."

They engaged in battle again, this time Shinobi's movements were a little different, but Tri-blade found himself parrying and countering with ease. After a few minutes, Tri-blade delivered a solid strike with his free hand, sending Shinobi tumbling to the ground.

He quickly rose to his feet, giving a ceremonial bow. "Until next, time, friend," said Shinobi, before throwing a Flash Bomb to the ground.

Tri-blade immediately dropped his basket and ran in the direction of the smoke, to no avail. Shinobi was gone yet again. Tri-blade had no idea how much time had passed during those two battles, but he didn't feel any real fatigue. It was an unusual situation, to say the least. Scratching his head, he started to walk back to the bench.

"SHINOBI!" cried Tri-blade.

Shinobi already had a basket in his hand. "Yes, it is I, Tri-blade. Now. LET'S DUEL!" He lunged in, quick as a mouse, and Tri-blade barely avoided a strike from the swinging basket.

"I. Am. Getting. Too. Old. For. This..." grunted Tri-blade as he swung, already feeling the basket in his hand.

Despite being made of bamboo, the baskets clashed with each other as though they were blunt weapons, and each of the warriors felt the impact of their strikes. Empowered, Tri-blade stopped trying to parry, and simply exchanged blows with Shinobi, who didn't seem bothered by the unusual tactic. Eventually, Tri-blade's bludgeoning attack sent Shinobi sprawling to the ground. The ninja-esque character shook his head rapidly, then rose to his feet.

"Until next, time, friend," said Shinobi, before throwing a Flash Bomb to the ground.

"Oh dammit..."

The smoke cleared.

Feeling trapped, Tri-blade only had one intention.

"EEEEEEEEEEE! BEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

"Wow, that's one heck of a summon, usually only Chase or Nova, or sometimes Agent Justin, can call my name that loudly," said Easter Bunny as he materialized in front of Tri-blade. "Well of course the Snake fella was louder than all of you guys put together, but now that he's moved to parts beyond, the competition for loudest caller is probably back up for grabs. That reminds me of this reality show where a bunch of bikini-clad people do crazy stunts for -"

"Bunny," said Tri-blade, walking away, not willing to endure the soliloquy.

E.B. caught the hint and hopped towards Tri-blade. "How are you enjoying the Eastertown - wait, I haven't even put up the egg-painting..."

"Bunny."

E.B. looked on silently.

"Am I in some kind of temporal loop with Shinobi? What's going on?"

"Well," E.B. stammered, "someone offered a business opportunity to get the flowers-and-chocolate market to reach new heights, and it's a win-win for everyone involved, Tri-blade. You'll love it! Your D.W. numbers will skyrocket, blank eggs will ooze out of the wazoo, and the guys in Vegas are going to be super psyched!"

"Why me, though?"

"Word is you have a really strong chin?" offered E.B.

"Bunny."

"Let's just say some people are able to max out their scores against you, as long as they avoid defeating you."

Tri-blade nodded. "I get it now. Well, I suppose I better try and get something out of the weekend, then."

"That's the spirit!" yelled E.B., his hindleg tapping the ground rapidly.

"But please don't interfere anymore. I still have things I want to do this weekend, don't want to be battling nonstop the next 72 hours."

"Okay. I won't add any more people to your hit list this time out," said E.B.

"Wait what now? More -"

E.B. dashed away quicker than a speeding bullet.

"I wonder if curried rabbit is a thing," Tri-blade muttered before hearing a rustling behind him.

Tri-blade whirled around, a basket already in his hand.

"Aha! Face me!" called a voice.

"And then, me!" called another.

Tri-blade blinked. In front of him was a man, clad in a silver-coloured helmet, battle gauntlets and light metal boots that covered his lower legs. Around him, energy crackled mightily, and was most heavily concentrated in loops around the set of claws he wielded in each glove.

"Hi Shinobi. But who's that..."

"Um, hey, Tri," was the sheepish voice in response.

"Mage? What the -"

"LET'S DUEL!" shouted Shinobi as he charged in.

Tri-blade sighed, then engaged in battle. To a side, Ability Mage absent-mindedly twirled his basket, whistling a tune.

Atlas Crisis - Meteor Defense 04/04/24

Lykos ID: 18321

Bonus Goal Reached! 15.5 Million Meteors came screaming towards the planet and earths heroes rose to the challenge. We only needed to stop 14 million, but I am sure citizens of earth are happy we stopped that other 1.5 million.

The meteor defense atlas was Defense based. Last article, I wrote about the effects you can use to increase your score above what the number is listed on the card. For the first time, I gave this a try myself - Can't talk about what I don't know about... or something witty.

I saw an increase per card of about 30-40 extra points per hit. I have my decks set up so that just about all of them are pretty even in power for the stat we were using, so not much changed there, but the extra hits for my gear did a pretty nice increase. I am going to try again on the next Atlas to test more results.

Let's Get To The Good Stuff!!!

In Division 6, we had a total of 45 participants, with the top 9 doing more than 1 hit attacks each. Our top two managed to break the 10K barrier.

As you can see, Babylon was able to take the top spot pretty handily with a total score of over 41K. The Icepick came in second with 17k, and followed by Ant-man with 8K. Breaking that 10K barrier is very impressive for this division, so well done!

Up in Division 5, I love to see a prediction come true. - More on that in a bit. We had 37 Operatives help out with meteors here and 30 of those were willing to hit more than once. Now lets look at the results.

There she is - Lich Queen sitting in the number one spot. Not only in first place, but doing it with 100k points to boot. This is almost twice as much as the next person down. Long Live the Queen... wait... Liches are dead... nevermind.

In second place, with no small score, is the CadaverDog - moving up a space from third to second. Finally we have Chronic in third who wasn't even in the top ten last week but blasted up there with 48K! A round of applause for Justin Case, who also broke the 10K mark, but slipped from first to 4th this round.

Division 4 saw the rise of the Freak! While only fielding 13 operatives, the top three winners did a great job of doing some heavy lifting.

Harry F Freak took the number one spot having often been lower on the division list. Harry soared past everyone to the top spot. Yojimbo went from 3rd to 2nd this round with less than 4k points behind Harry. Overcast took the number 3, also moving up from 4th to 3rd this round. Overcast was almost 1k less than Yojimbo, so it was a very close race in this division.

Division 3 had some new and old faces in the tops. 36 Operatives were battling it out for a spot in the Top Ten, but only ten made the cu... wait...

In first place we have a newcomer to the winners circle, Erockeris! Erockeris was a meteor smashing machine wracking up a staggering 320K points. Princess Sarai moved up from 3rd to 2nd, taking an additional 200k+ points for herself. And Orion Star leap-frogged over the competition to go from 10th to 3rd this round. Orion's points were not far behind the princess, and almost caught up to her.

Division 2 was a smaller field, but as we know the higher divisions usually take the brunt of the work. On this occasion though, we had less points being earned than in Div 3!

]

Well, that's ok, because every point counts and everyone gets a trophy. What? Not everyone gets one? oh..

So we can see that Captain Picard was able to score a nice 308k points to take first, Metalord had 251K for second, and ChaChing earned 160k for third place. Let's give them a round of applesauce.

In Division 1 we had some more participants than last time, and they went to work!

Beating out 13 other operatives, The Gentleman moved up from 2nd to first with a mind-blowing 3.5 million points. Shinobi gave up his top spot but still took an impressive 1.7 Mill for the second place finish. Sarg kept his 3rd place spot and did it with almost 1.5 Mill points.

I have to admit I was very worried about this Atlas while it was going on. At 2 and a half hours left we were still about 2.4 million points away from goal. But the heroes were able to really push to get up , over, and well past that goal mark.

We have a weather report for next week coming in... TORNADOES! Lots of and lots of twisters for the heroes, villains, and everyone in between to stop on April 11th @ 8pm Server time. This will be a Movement Atlas, so get your Move It, Move It cards set and take a look at your gear to see if you can improve your points.

Attack cards will be boosted with Elemental Damage effects. Defense cards can be boosted in points by wearing Resist Elemental effects, and Movement itself can be boosted with Weaken Foe Movement % gear. Take advantage of all the points you can get!

I do want to apologize for my late article this week. I will try not to let the time blow away like that again.

Until next Time... See you in Oz!

Atlas Crisis - Flood Protection 03/27/24

Lykos ID: 18321

Didn't buy Flood Insurance? That's ok, the heroes of earth have saved the day. Over 13.9 million floods were stopped by the intrepid spandex brigades, making sure that lives and property were not lost. Goal was reached, so all rewards are up for grabs.

Lets take a look at division 6 and see how they did.

Rank / Div / Div Rank / Hero / # Saved / Hits / Score %

48 6 1 ⎳ΛПƬΣЯП ටƑ ♆SOB♆ 23,292 45 0.16%

94 6 9 Sunburst 150 1 0.00%
95 6 10 Lion of Villa 124 1 0.00%

Probably our largest numbers of participants, even if it was mostly to hit and run. I get the feeling it will always kind of be this way, as those that actually do the damage will be moved up to Div 5 eventually, leaving behind the One Hit Wonders.

We had 47 Operatives, and the top 4 operatives did put up some great numbers, especially our Lantern of the SOB. Normally we dont break the 10K barrier until later, but Lantern went straight to 23K. Amazing job. Rounding out the top three are the Lost Warrior and Monkeys. The Steel Man also broke the 1k barrier in position 4.

I see a familiar face in spot number 3. That is CadaverDog who was in first place of Div 6 last week. Not only moved up a Division but clawed his way to third place spot. The Lich Queen is no stranger to the Top Three, this time moving up to the second place spot. I hope to see her sitting pretty in number one next week.

First place went to Justin Case - Defending his first place title from last week! Well done Justin.

Over in Division 4 we have some new and old winners. We had a total of 14 Operatives saving lives. The top three Operatives all broke the 100K barrier as well. Overcast in 4th was just under it, but that was a helluva good showing. Overcast was in 4th last week, but down in Div 5! So that is a great feat.

I gotta tell you, it was using every consumable I had to get there and I even resorted to spending a few MPs. But I got there, dag nab it!! Yojimbo went from Division 5 2nd place to Divsision 4 3rd place this week. An impressive accomplishment considering the jump in division and competition.

Division 3 had a remarkable 30 Operatives, and we saw some impressive numbers as well.

Temujin joins the Top Three by taking first, followed by Whips in second. Temu was down in 9th place last week, so they have been eating their wheaties. I couldn't find Whips in any of the top tens last week, so welcome to number Two! Princess Sarai came slamming back into the Top Three this week taking that 3rd place finish like she owned it. Only one of the Top Three last week are still in our Top Ten, The Stander. But there were a number of familar names in the rest of the division like Orion Star and Burning Daylight.

Sitting in Division 2 we have 11 participants. Some of them moved up from last week like Major William and William Davespeare (Must be a William thing).

As I said earlier, Major William bumped himself up a division and made his presenbce felt by taking 3rd. Other notable names such as Vol Kana, Vendetta, and Dark Mourning again made the Top Ten.

And Last But Not Least: DIVISION ONE!! Once again the million barrier was shattered by this division, with our top three stopping a combined nearly 5.5 million. We had 12 total participants in the top division.

Sitting in Number One like he owns the joint is Shinobi - no stranger to the Top Three or number one. The Gentleman moved from 5th place up to 2nd this week, and Sarg held on strong in his 3rd place position. Sevon joined the top ten this week, and we will see if we see more of them in the weeks to come.

Always very proud of our heroes when we manage to hit goal. Great work this time around! As of the time of this article, we do not have a new Atlas on the books yet, but I expect it will be on Thursday or Friday of next week, April 4th or 5th. This aint written in stone, just my conjecture.

I wanted to take a moment to remind everybody that there are multiple ways to get the bigger hits on an Atlas - Not just by having the high number in your card. Lets look at how the numbers were calculated.

This was an Attack based Atlas, so that means your attack attribute on your card is the first thing you want to look at. If you make three sets of decks, you can have one dedicated to each of the stats - One for attack, one for defense, and one for movement. But that isn't the only thing to look at.

You can also see on the instructions that you can boost these cards attack stats by wearing gear that matches the requirements. In this case, you could wear gear that adds physical damage to boost your attack cards. Your attacks from your defense cards are boosted by resisting physical effects, and finally your attack stat on your movement cards can be boosted by wearing gear that increases your attack %.

All three types of gear, plus the right Attack Stat card deck, can give you a serious leg up on hitting the big numbers. Next Atlas, take a moment and see what the requirements are. Go into your gear, add the right equipment, and choose a Hero Deck tailored to the type of stat Atlas we are looking at. You may be pleasantly surprised to find yourself outscoring the competition - or at least those that don't pay attention.

Good Luck Heroes! Stay Safe!

Atlas Crisis - Airline Stability 03/20/24

Lykos ID: 18321

Aliens? No Problem. Solar Flares? We got it. Planes dropping out of the sky? Sorry, No can do!

The most recent Atlas event was another problem with planes falling from heaven again. Someone really should be looking into these plane manufacturers. Unfortunately, like last time, we did not hit our goal of saving 13.8 million people. In fact we did worse than last time we tried to stop the planes! This time, we failed to save 790,695 people. Maybe everyone needs to re-think flight travel.

We had six divisions this time instead of eight. So lets jump right in with Division 6 and see how they did.

We had 22 operatives in this division, but only three (THREE!) made more than one attempt to save people and then went home. The other 19 heroes, helped once and then off they went to the Bahamas or something. Maybe now we know why so many people died in fiery plane crashes. You know what? I am not even going to list the full top ten. Lets just show the top three who did the work.

These three showed true stamina and loyalty to earth. Congratulations to Cadaverdog, Armpit, and The worm.

I am a lot prouder of Division 5! Five had an impressive showing of 37 operatives, 34 of which put in some effort to save lives. This is also the earliest I have seen the 10K mark broken - Almost the 100K. Impressive hero-ing done here!

Our first place winner goes to Justin Case with 72K people. Yojumbo is right behind with 71K, followed by the Lich Queen at 62K. A shout out to Overcast, Harry the Freak, and Shakey 2024 for also breaking that 10K ceiling. Yojimbo came in 4th last Atlas, so hitting 2nd this time is awesome. The Lich Queen is also not new to the lime light as she placed 3rd in Div 8 last time.

Division 4 had exactly 10 participants, so at least we got all our medals handed out. A good showing of heroes allowed us to see 6 of them break the 10K barrier. We are still looking for that elusive 100K breakage though.

Heck of of a leap, even for a hero. Hey wait! Who's that guy in 4th?? That's ME!! No, no.. no autographs, please...

Ahem, anyway... Lets take a look at Division 3. 28 total operatives participated here. What is truly impressive, is that all but one of the top ten managed to break that 100k barrier. Not to slight Burning Daylight, they put up an impressive score in tenth place.

Neach-dìon na h-Alba (Yes I C&P'ed that) took first with an incredible 227K saved. Neach made a heck of an entrance to the top ten by placing first. Major William took 3rd in Div 3 last time and is now popping in at number 2. The Stander found himself standing in 3rd place, which is still an impressive feet, I mean feat. The Stander was in 9th place last Atlas, so this is an even more impressive run for the top.

Division 2 was slim in number, but mighty in saves. We had ten operatives again in this one, 4 of which broke 100K.

But MetaLord wasn't happy with 100K, or even 200K. No, Meta went straight up and over the half million mark. Lets compare that to last Atlas where Meta placed 3rd and only stopped 152K flares. This was truly an impressive comeback. Taking Second was Dark Mourning who didn't place in the top ten last Atlas and soared straight to a gold this time. Vol Kana grabbed third also not having made the top ten last go around. Vol saved nearly 100K more than the 4thg place finisher. She did great, it's plain to see.

OK, now for the big finale. The Reveal. The one you are all waiting for - DIVISION 1!!

Twelve operatives were able to come out and save lives, and save they did! They may not have broken the 2 million barrier, but they still managed to save literally millions of people.

Shinobi placed first previously and slips one spot to second. Sarg also slipped one place from 2nd to 3rd. Most of the other names on the Top Ten here look familiar, however this is Gamma Goddess's first move to Division 1, having placed 4th in division 2. Hitting the top ten is impressive at any time, but Gamma did it by doing an additional 200K more points than she did last Atlas. She really poured on the steam and took the division by storm. Hmmm I think I am mixing metaphores here.

ANYway... Congratulations to all our heroes that came out to save the populace. To those who sat out and watched, those lives are on your heads. May you hear their screams of anguish in your sleep.

Sorry, getting a bit dramatic. So our next Atlas going to be on March 27th at midnight EST. It looks like the dams are bursting and flooding will destroy homes, lives, businesses, and who knows what else. Our mission is to hurl boulders into these raging flood waters to stop them from killing people. Sounds like a good wet time.

What kind of Atlas would you like to see? Personally, I am hoping for Meteors. Don't y'all wanna punch meteors? Wouldn't that be fun?

Don't forget the Item Explosion starts this weekend and after that we have Easter Village arriving on Monday the 25th.

Save ya later!

Atlas Crisis - Solar Flares!

Lykos ID: 18321

AHH! The sun is trying to kill us! Ok, not quite, but the solar flares got out of hand and it was up to earths heroes to protect the planet.

We had a new addition to this atlas event - In fact several. All new division splits made the number of prizes go way up and hopefully, we saw more heroes partaking because of it. Let's take a look at the division breakdowns.

In Division 8, we ended up with 58 participants. That sounds like a lot, but only the top 5 operatives actually did more than one hit each. All the others hit once and went back home. Lets thank our top 5 operatives for their work.

The top three operatives in this division are Captain Underpants, Lich Queen, and Shakey 2024. The Captain earned his top spot by not only breaking the 10k mark but took it all the way up to 59k.

Division 7 had less participants but a lot more solar flares stopped. Only 2 operatives hit one time and moved on, so we had a lot more commitment in this division.

Here are your top ten medal winners of Div 7.

Our top three are William Davespeare, Orion Star, and Major William. All three, plus PR Princess, broke the 100k mark and William took it to halfway up to 200k. Great solid defense here in division 3.

Division 2 also saw full top spots for medals. Only 3 managed to break that 100k mark, but several were right behind them. This division had no one phoning it in, with all participants hitting over 50 times.

Division 1 did not disappoint. 13 total operatives took the lion's share of flares which we expect from these high level, hard hitters.

More well known names that have held the top spots are found sitting at the top once again. Shinobi took first and is the only one in the entire crisis to burst through the 2 million mark. Absolutely phenomenal. Sarg was right behind him with 1.9 million, and The Gentleman following with 1.6 million. In all, five operatives contributed by defending against over a million flares each.

As of the time of this article, we do not know what the next threat will be to earth, but I am confident the heroes of this planet will rise up as they so often have to stop the next crisis. I would not be surprised if we had another Movement Atlas next time, but we shall see.

Fan-Fiction: The Furious One

Furious Squirrel #12351

Furious Squirrel raced over the clouds of strange black fog that rolled across the earth. From here, he could hear the odd noises below. People were hollering and playing like it was a giant party, yet there were monsters moving around in the darkness.

“Furi...” a voice rattled through the comm with a lot of fuzziness around it.

Furious pulled a lever back and then used a switch the push more power into the comm system. He yanked down a pipe with a horn on the end and spoke into it. “This is Furious, who is this?”

Clearer now, the voice of Harry Freak came through. “Furious, we need help! We have this monster pinned down, but it won’t die. We need your cannon!”

“On it!” Letting the pipe go, it zipped back up to the ceiling of the pilothouse. He put his goggles on and grabbed the wheel. “Don’t fail me now, old girl!” He pulled back on the entire steering system and then pushed it forward. The Dirigible’s engines turned up, speeding him along quickly.

A red light flashed on the dash, and he slapped it to shut it off. It was warning him that the power levels of the old engine were at critical. He turned hard and zoomed toward a battle happening in the sea near a large city. The monster, Charybdis, was being held at bay by heroes attacking it. But they weren’t making any headway.

“I hope you can handle this, old girl!” He grabbed another lever and pulled it down, clicking it into place and then disconnected a cable from one place and plugged it into another port. He slowed the ship down and pulled out a switch and smashed it down.

Under his dirigible, the large electro-canon descended from its holding bay. The crystal structure on the inside was already white hot, with power surging through it. He sped toward the monster, the sides of his dirigible rattling, the engines turning his pilot house into a sauna.

“TAKE THAT!” He slammed the button again and a bright white beam of light came from his cannon and nailed the Charybdis right in the face. As its body split in two, it screeched and lashed around. With a great crash, the mighty carcass landed in the middle of the bay, never reaching the city. Heroes on the ground created barriers quickly to stop the ensuing tidal wave from causing any damage.

Harry Freak’s voice came over his comm. “You did it! It’s dead!”

Furious replied, “We did it. But this isn’t over. Lady Echidna is still out there. Justin needs us in Antarctica before it’s too late.” With that, he led the way across the ocean as heroes gathered from across the planet.

The battle with Lady Echidna was ethereal. Furious flew his dirigible over hoards of heroes against one villain. She was no giant monster or possessing thousands of demon slaves. She was alone, and yet she was nearly unbeatable. Blast after blast, Furious used all the weapons at his command to bring her down, and in the end, it was his dirigible that crashed into the snowy fields of the bottom of the world.

When the day was darkest and life seemed to be over, a beacon of hope arrived as an angel. Nova fought her in a battle that rivaled anything in all the myths. Then the monster to beat all monsters stomped through, crushing the icy continent as he set his eyes on the woman of nightmares. Midgardsomr joined the fight. Furious was certain that the snake hero had been destroyed, but there he stood, possessing a god-like power.

The Battle was over, and the day was done. Midgard had finally defeated the enemy that seemed unbeatable. Even better, Nova had returned. What was he? No one was certain any longer.

Furious stood near his crashed ship, sad eyes looking at the wreck that has been his tie to his past and his tool of heroism. Arctic winds made this even more painful. A hand reached out and held his shoulder.

“You did well.” The deep voice of Santa said.

Furious nodded. “I pushed her beyond her limits and made this real. But she’s gone. I don’t know what to do. I have crashed her before, but never like this. There is no coming back from this.”

Santa examined the wreckage and then asked the strangest question. “You’re not from this time, aren’t you?”

“No. I traveled from the 19th century to here. Why?”

“Seems like I owe you a century’s worth of Christmas gifts.”

This was not what Furious expected. “I guess... you don’t need...”

“I think I can make it up with this.” He waved his hand and magical reindeer appeared all around the wreck. Golden cords attached to them and the remains of his ship. In moments, the magical reindeer lifted it off the ground and flew it away.

Furious asked, “What are you doing?”

“You’ll see.” Santa touched the side of his nose and vanished.

A month later, Santa's Sleigh made a special visit and brought Furious up north. He zoomed over arctic north and then dove into what appears to be a giant ice berg only to find that the ice was an illusion hiding a large docking bay. The sleigh lands and he steps out. Santa joined him. Both looked out into the vast open bay that was currently without a ship.

“What did you need?” Furious asked.

“Merry Christmas!”

Furious looks at his watch, “It’s March.”

“Are you going to quibble about that when you are getting a centuries’ worth of Christmas gifts from Santa?”

Furious smiles, “This is about my ship?”

“Yup.” Santa clapped his gloved hands three times, and the elves pulled ropes attached to large doors at the far end of the bay.

Furious’s mouth hung open and a giddy smile affixed to his face as he watched a gorgeous boat float in on the water with a large armored balloon on top. The boat had beautiful bright wood with gold and silver accents. It had a small propeller in the front, and an enormous gold spike on the tip of the balloon.

Santa said, “Say hello to your new ship, the Furious One. It comes with magically infused engines that will give it twice the speed your old dirigible had. There are six turrets, three on each side, that are built in and will extend on command. The weapons are all powered by the same magical core the ship has built into it. However, the most powerful weapon on this baby is the lightning cannon on the front.” He pointed to the spike at the front of the balloon.

Furious watched as the incredible boat floated toward him. “Is it like the electro cannon on my old ship?”

“Better. The same unique crystal that your old weapon had powers this baby. It will give it as you move and charge the power in it. One shot from this will do more than twice the damage as your old weapon, and will not overheat.” Santa leaned in and said, “Wanna take her up for a spin?”

“YES!... ahem... I mean, yes I would.” Furious was a giddy as a kid on Christmas morning.

Santa walked him up a plank that met the ship’s top deck. “Unlike your first ship, this one has an open deck and living space. In fact, this ship has three decks, with guest rooms, a mess, and storage. Your hero league can use this as a mobile base, if you want.”

“I think they would appreciate that.”

Santa walked him into the new pilot house, this room as elegant as the outside of the ship. All the dials and controls were exquisite Victorian style, glistening like a new car. Luckily, Santa made the design similar to his old ship, so he knew the controls well.

“Taking us out.” Furious said as he stood behind the wheel and pulled down levers.

The Furious One sailed out of the hidden docking bay and out into open waters. Once clear, the engines buzzed louder, and the ship sped forward. The propellers on the back and front whipped into high gear and the ship lifted out of the icy waters. They gained altitude for a long climb sailing high into the sky. Breaking through the cloud layer, the ship leveled off and soared along as though it were sailing over a placid ocean. The mountains of clouds around it basked in the glorious sunlight, which glittered against the shining gilded hull of this ship.

Santa asked, “So, what do you think?”

Furious was bursting with emotions. “Thank you. I feel at home again.”

“If you need a tuneup, don’t hesitate to call.” Santa said and touched the side of his nose, vanishing away.

Furious finally cried out in joyful noises as he played with his new toy. The Furious One was ready for the world, but was the world ready for the Furious One?

Alien Security Atlas Event - 03/03/24

Lykos ID: 18321

It's a Great day to be a human and a better day to be a hero! The aliens came, they saw, they got their butts handed to them by the heroes of earth. We achieved our goal of 13.5 million aliens, which let's face it - that's a lotta aliens. Punching alien invaders is almost as much fun as punching nazi's. Just like old Grand dad used to do.

Alright, let's take a look at the divisions and see how we did!

In Division 4, we have a lot more activity that we did last Atlas. At the 7 hours left mark we only had 3 participants int his division, but it filled up fast and now we have a nice robust division. It looks like the chess pieces took most of the spots, but Our top three winners are Kyros, White King, and Black Knight. Kyros and White King both broke the 10K mark, with Kyros just nudging the win from the White king.

Overall Rank / Div / Div Rank / Hero / Aliens punched / Hits / Score Percentile

62 4 1 Kyros Faebane 11,136 105 0.08%
63 4 2 ♔ 11,013 90 0.08%

80 4 9 ♘ 7,256 75 0.05%
81 4 10 Layak 7,214 75 0.05%

There were a total of 18 operatives in Division 4 this round.

In Division 3, we had 68 operatives! About half of those punched one Alien and then left the scene. If more people actually did one full deck, it would go a long way from taking the load off the other players, but it is what it is. Lets look at our top ten heroes for division 3.

Overall Rank / Div / Div Rank / Hero / Aliens punched / Hits / Score Percentile 28 3 1 ‡ ☠"OVERCAST"☠ ‡ 67,394 324 0.47%

Overcast, T-2, and Dark Mystic were able to secure the top three spots respectively. While none were able to break the 100k mark of punched aliens, these were admirable numbers all around. Great job in Division 3!

Division 2 saw 45 operatives on the field, defending as many citizens as they could from being abducted off into space. As you can see from the following top ten, we had some familiar faces at the top.

Overall Rank / Div / Div Rank / Hero / Aliens punched / Hits / Score Percentile 12 2 1 <<ü>>Princess Sarai<<ü>> 267,418 436 1.87%

33 2 9 Harry the Freak 54,322 207 0.38%
34 2 10 BlazingSouls 53,181 105 0.37%

Last Atlas, Puff was first, then the princess, and finally Doom. They changed it up this Atlas with the Princess Sarai coming in first, Doom taking second, and Puff finishing third. All three however cracked the 100k barrier with Princess Sarai going all out for the 200k.

Division 1 had the most fun in terms of Alien punching. With only 44 operatives, they put a fantastic amount of points on the board. Those aliens might want to stick to taking cows from now on. Here is a look at our top ten heroes that kicked butt and forgot to take names.

Sarg was in third place last Atlas, and must have taken issue with it, because he surged forward to take the first place spot this time. He barely beat out Shinobi who came in second, who had a 4th place finish last time. The Gentleman wasn't even in the top ten last time, and came screaming up to third place. Actually, I just checked and The Gentleman wasn't even available last Atlas at all, so that extra rest must have helped, because he did some amazing work this time around.

We had a total of 6 operatives bust through the 1 million mark of punched Alien Nazis. Congratulations to all the participants, of all the Divisions for making this Alien invasion a success.. erm, for us, I mean... Yeah.

MOVING ON! The next Atlas is schedule for Monday, March 11th, however there is nothing scheduled for the type of Atlas Crisis as of yet. We just had a Movement and Attack crisis, so I would not be surprised if we were looking at a Defense crisis coming up, but you never know!

There is a lot happening on the calendar for March, so take a look at it if you get the chance. Click on the lil calendar icon on the main home page to see details. We have a new Summon-able Raid, Scheduled Maintenance, Atlas, St Pattys and an Items explosion all going on this month. OH! And it looks like the ole Easter Village comes back near the end of the month too! Don't miss out on all the candy goodness. Do you have your Easter Baskets ready?

Airline Stability Atlas 02/26/2024

Lykos ID: 18321

The Airline Stability Atlas of 02/26/2024 is complete and we unfortunately just missed our target goal of 13,500,000 people saved. Instead, we hit 13,013,560. I am not sure, but I think that means we let 486,440 people die. Oops.

Let's take a look at the real heroes who put their busy lives on hold to try and rescue as many people as possible. In our lowest division, Division 4, we had only 11 participants giving nearly everyone a nice prize. The 1 - 10th place winners are as follows for Division 4:

(Overall Rank / Div / DivRank / Hero / People saved /Hits / Score Percentile)

60 4 1 Wicked Samurai 11,487 36 0.09%
65 4 2 Justin Case 8,628 95 0.07%

145 4 9 Nada Know 141 1 0.00%
162 4 10 Arnold Greyskull 66 1 0.00%

Lets give a warm honorable mention to Zyxw Man for 11th place though.

Division 3 saw a lot more participants with 57 operatives helping to save lives. Our top ten here is as follows:

While no one broke 100,000 saved, Yojimbo and Overcast did an amazing job.

Division 2 saw slightly less participants than 3 with 53 total. The lives saved were much higher for this heroic set of operatives though. Here are your Top Ten heroes for Division 2:

Division 1 is where all the big hits took place, as you would expect it to be. While there are only 44 participants in this division, they took the lions share of people saved. Looking at the numbers, many people will be going home to their loved ones thanks to these heroes.

Heroes Rising is now available as a mobile app!

Greetings Heroes!

The fabled day is upon us! Heroes Rising is officially available as a mobile app! It has been a long time coming, and I'm sure for most if you already playing... not too much is different, other than a few improved interface updates AND a very well loved feature is finally back, only accessible within the mobile app: the ability to watch video ads for rewards! So please, if you play on a mobile device, give the app a download - you SHOULD be able to find it just through searching your respective app store, but the links are also below (and available in-game on the home page if you are playing in mobile and not in-app). Logging in for the first time, you will see yourself as a brand new toon, but you can immediately just click the settings icon in the upper right, and click the button for "Linked Character Accounts" - this will allow you to override the new toon with your current toon, you will just need to enter your login credentials (note, this must use the internal email/password system rather than facebook login, so if you may need to setup your email/password prior if you have not done so yet, which you can do from your profile page. Just comment here or send me a message if you need any help linking your account.)

The Mobile App is still in its infancy, so please report any bugs you come across, or ideas for interface improvements (already looking at the avatar creator, I am thinking that thing needs a big time mobile update so I can see what I am changing without having to scroll up and down) - in March, we will begin marketing and advertising the apps to try and bring in new players. I hope you will enjoy the new app, and if you do, please consider giving it a (hopefully positive) review, as reviews and downloads will greatly help put eyeballs on the game and can be a deciding factor in whether or not a new player will give it a shot! Growing the community will be beneficial to everybody, and in addition to helping grow the community through feedback, there is also a new player referral system setup! Each player has a unique referral code, which you can give to friends and enemies alike, who are starting new toons - you will both get bonus Morphons when their character reaches level 50 and level 100, as well as additional Morphons commensurate with any purchases they end up making! You can find your referral code at the bottom of the Morphons screen, and new players will be able to enter the code from the same place (please note this is for entirely new human beings, not character alts - there will be internal checks made to ensure referred toons are not alts, and no rewards will be given for alts). I would love to hear feedback from entirely new players as well about the new player experience, so if you find and get brand new people playing (or perhaps people who stopped playing long ago), put them in touch with me for feedback on their experience, and both of you will receive some MPs for it!

For Android: Google Play

For iOS: Apple Store

As a final note, unrelated to the new mobile app, I just want to allude to the next big game update... the Multiverse! I am sure many of you out there understand the basics of a multiverse in comics/media - an alternate universe where alternate versions of characters exist. What does this mean for Heroes Rising? Well, it will be something akin to "seasons" seen in other games; I will give a more detailed look in a future post, since the main focus on this is the mobile app, but "Universe Prime", which is where all your characters are now, will remain as is, and a new Multiverse (i.e game server) where everybody starts off as a brand new level 1 toon will start and exist for a few months - this new multiverse will have variant rules and some unique properties, items, gear, etc, and your goal is to basically excel as best as you can in this multiverse - after a few months, the multiverse will collapse, and based on your progress, you will be able to transfer some of the things you earned on this toon to your Universe Prime toon. The purpose of the multiverse is two-fold: one, it is a fun way to add additional play time in Heroes Rising and give players a chance to try new things (run out of energy in Universe Prime? Time to head over to Multiverse A!). Two, I can introduce new features and updates into the game that exist in a temporary world, where players can play test the updates and we can get direct data and feedback about any potential changes to be made to the game, without affecting the main "Universe Prime" we all know and love, incase any new updates or features would be game breaking in some way. I have many plans and ideas for things to introduce into Heroes Rising: things that are fun, things to balance the mechanics, additional ways to inrease in power, new game modes so there is more things to do, all sorts of stuff! Right now though, I am especially hesitant about when and how to add or implement certain changes or additions without breaking anything - I want the game to evolve in a positive direction, and I try my best to ensure anything new or changes made are fair & sensical to the community and game as a whole, but I am only one person, and I don't even play the game (though I do plan on starting my own toon with the mobile app launch, see if you can find me!), so I rely heavily on community feedback. I don't want to lose the plot and I think the Multiverse is a great way for everyone to see and test out any possible changes to be made in Universe Prime before hand, and will allow us all as a community to conversate about said changes/additions - seeing updates in action is much better than just theorizing about it! So I will make a new post in March with more details about the Multiverse, and am planning/hoping to launch the first Multiverse in April - what this means for Universe Prime going forward is that there will not really be any more immediate "game changing" updates made here until it has gone through the Multiverse and had time to cook there first (except for MAYBE rare exceptions, I don't want to be a Sith and box myself in to an absolute). There will still be content updates in Universe Prime of course (new patrols, bosses, gyms, etc - new things within the already existing frameworks), just nothing that really involves "changing the code around" or adding entirely new sections; only things like Quality of Life improvements, bug fixes, technical improvements, UI revisions, that sort of thing.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to read through my wall of text! I hope you all enjoy the mobile app and improvements, and I hope we are able to grow our small but awesome community real soon! As always, thanks to everyone for their feedback, and let me know if you have any questions or comments about anything here. Thanks, Heroes!

(Player RP- 10879) Requiem for a Legend

(This was composed before the publication of Chapter 14 of The Ragnarok Prophecy was released)

"We salute those who gave their all, in defense of this world and its people. Each and every one of them deserving of a glorious tribute and a place in the annals of history. Among them are various heroes within our collective leagues as well as men and women of BADGE who rose up during moments of doubt and fear, to conquer and overcome.

"To adapt a famous quote often used in literature, and especially apt considering the themes of Norse legends, 'HAIL THE VICTORIOUS DEAD!'"

Some in the audience immediately raised a glass, and repeated the chant, "Hail the Victorious Dead!"

"Many have offered words of tribute and acknowledgement of the being some call Midgard, some call Jormungandr, others more familiarly, The Serpent. Amongst my friends, I've called him Snakey, but would never dare say it to his face."

Some chuckles from the assembled people present, allowed Tri-blade a brief moment to pause and reflect. He continued.

"Some people have called him a villain, others an anti-hero. His tale is long, tightly-weaved, and spans years countless to most of us. For those of us who have met his acquaintance in this and other realms, you'll understand his character cannot be reduced to such simple terms.

"Some saw a creature brash or belligerent. Others saw the humanity behind the piercing scales, booming voice, and immense mass particularly when transformed. Like many humans though, he had a fondness for the outdoors, the thrill of a hunt, the laughter among friends.

"My personal interactions with him weren't many and pale heavily in comparison to his leaguemates in this realm and in S.H.C., but they were always insightful and revealing. In my very last conversation with him, he took the time to personally thank myself among others for driving him to increase his strength in a distinct aspect of battling. At the time, I brushed if off as faint praise, but over time I have come to recognize the genuine respect that he carries, even for rivals... no matter the disparity in strength or influence.

"Some myths suggest that Midgardsomr was destined to rend the world asunder, be a world-breaker. I saw it much differently, and the events of the past months showed exactly that.

"He. Loved. This. Realm.

"Few here have such an intense, genuine, love for this realm. To him, his drive was balance. Fairness for all, each person being able to achieve with whatever gifts they possessed. We all may argue about methods or the best way to achieve this, but his passion was unmatched.

"Hail the Serpent. Hail his quest for balance. May his efforts be ever-felt in the hearts of us all."
