The art of the War Board.

Island #11504

This may be because some of us border on being ridiculously competitive at everything. But it’s probably a little known secret that we’ve used since all us avengers were together and dominating the game. And a tool perhaps some league leaders have never thought of and could potentially make use of going forward in the game. It’s always fun when 2 leagues that aren’t known as big spenders end up against each other in the finals because apparently this go round me nor frank could count. We both apparently sucked for one go round it is what it is. That being said. League wars gold contenders should strive for a few key points to actively win gold.

1. Know before the round starts who can decisively beat who. I’m from the school of thought that scouting before the round starts is a great thing. If you lose, big deal, you know it’s not a gimme. Worst case scenario they look at their feed and now have a sense of confidence. They may atk you and give up an unexpected defensive win. Winning war is about having more information than them, developing a strategy on who is authorized to atk who in any given round.

2. Give up less defensive wins than the opponent is critical and I am legendary for being the worst in clutch situations at this. I don’t give up insane amounts of fights I shouldn’t be initiating, but due to a wizards curse I’m notoriously unlucky when the game is on the line. But knowing where those close coin tosses are and avoiding being the aggressor is vital.

3. Never take any risks when you are winning. The avenger way has always been to take an early lead, force pressure. Assume the other league doesn’t communicate. Later this became known as “angel of deathing” it. As the toon angel of deaths operator is notorious for leeroy Jenkins type theatrics when his team is losing. Take the lead and force the other teams undisciplined players into initiating fights they either can’t win or shouldn’t be initiating until the final hour when they are the Hail Mary.

4. Have someone on the league capable of making a board and communicating where the paths of least resistance lie. Always take your easiest fights out first and progressively mark off each win as it’s taken, lining up your next easiest win. Allow them to fall like dominoes knowing you don’t start at the riskiest potential contest. Every loss is another win you have to materialize.

5. Bags of tricks. Before a fight make note of your opponents toon guid IDs. It’s the only thing the players can’t change. They can change names, they can swap avatars with identical or similar leveled toons to force errors. Tricking you into attacking a tougher opponent.

Be wary of opponents storing skill points for a month or more to unleash on the final round. Making a would be lay up into a tightly contested fight. Scout during the round with a neutral toon to verify nothing has changed.

Utilize all see eyes to look at their gear and see what they have no or little resistance too. Load up on that element of gear and annihilate them.

Save an atk or two. Sometimes in the chaos an opponent will lose track of who has hit who. Sometimes if you have a lead pull a few punches. Do not atk their lowest level guy with your best twice. Maybe their lowest 2. You now have a lead and 2 lay ups at your disposal if it’s close or tied at the end. Better to take a last second lead with lay ups and leave them the tough fights.

6. Communicate and be disciplined above all.

On the board above, X equals successful atks by brute squad. O equals successful atks by angels.
The names below are defensive wins given away with the first name being the initiator. We can see from this board that as typically expected the highest level guys have each cleared the bottom level guys of their opponent. The middle of the board is where we find our match ups.

We want to avoid coin tosses like silver surfer versus zanazola. Or vendetta versus kid chaos.

We want to prey on good match ups. Admittedly, few appear to truly be dominant options without knowing the toons more intimately. In this instance, brute squad should sit on their 6 point lead and force angels to materialize 6 points without giving up a defensive loss. While looking at matchups like ardvark vs monstrosity which already yielded 1 win as it’s Hail Mary.
