Coloring contest: With mp prizes!

Well, it's that time again, grab those finger paints, crayons, and Microsoft Paint....yes it's time for another coloring contest. Yes, I am calling it a contest, not just event. This time, there will be winners and prizes for winning. But, more on that later.

As always, I am providing pencil sketches by me (Dan Peyton) that I have used for various power cards and/or raid bosses. The base image is often very simple, a figure drawing of a model. This is why some of the sketches look nearly naked, (no giggling...I heard you, Angela). You may also note that there are sketches that have been part of coloring events I've already held. I want to give you a lot of options since there will be a contest. However, do not simply repost old art you already submitted to a former event. It all needs to be new.

Now, about the contest: First things first, EVERYONE who enters will get a 10mp card per entry, up to six. So, if you feel you can't compete, you can still enter something. How the contest will run...I will select my favorite images I feel are the best. Then, I will put them up for a vote. The top three winners will be turned into power cards. Each winner will also be given a copy of their power card and 120mp. (Note: If you decide to add outside images onto the sketches, if those images are licensed they cannot be made into power cards and thus will be disqualified from the contest.)

  • Select a picture from the posted images below. Color it however you wish. You can print it off and add color physically. You can use digital programs like Adobe, Procreate, Painter, and/or Microsoft Paint to add color.
  • PG-13 or better, keep it family friendly.
  • Post the finished pics under the main thread on the Heroes Rising Players page.
  • Post your PLAYER ID# with every picture you submit. Do not assume we know your number.
  • You will earn a 'good job' power card worth 10mp for each of the first 6 images you submit. Any past 6 will not count.
  • Please turn them in on or before May 31st.

The Great Clean Up: A How-To Guide

By Starmaster

As you can see, a new event has called all the heroes back into action.

The Great Clean Up.

We are a couple hours into the efforts to pick up after the mess the Demon Jinn left in Bursa, Turkey. That leaves the better part of two days to participate in this epic trash throw-out.

How can you best benefit from your so-called dumpster diving?

First, you need friends. The more friends the better. If your character doesn't have many friends, go to the FB (Facebook) tab on the main game screen in the right hand corner and tap it. This will take you to the Heroes Rising Players group page. You are invited as a new player to visit this page, say hello, ask questions about the game, and meet other players. A common occurrence is for new players to post a "Hello, I'm (Place Name Here) and I am looking for friends and/or a league" message.

Trust me, having many friends and a good league is a useful advantage to have in this social game. It isn't known as the Just-Me League, now is it? Around here, you will find some super...people who want you to enjoy the game as much as they do.

After you have some friends, you are going to want to press the big button at the top of the page to start your Clean Up Mission. This will place a link to The Great Clean Up to your personal Facebook page. It is important you place the original link on your personal page and keep it easy to access. I will explain the reason for that by the end of this post.

After you have the link on your personal Facebook page, copy the link as a comment in the special Global Clean Up thread by Nick Shapiro. Any posts outside this thread will be deleted to avoid utter chaos. This way it is much easier to follow all the heroes working hard and earning their volunteer service hours. Even BADGE has its bureaucracy.

Other players you have friended can then click on your link, and you on theirs to gain some free rewards. Crystals, Bux, Power Cards, and many other goodies are out there for you to grab and help dispose of. You know the old saying: "One man's treasure is another man's trash".

The rules on the main page of the game will inform you on how often you may post or click links to help out during the clean up. Pay attention to these windows of opportunity, as there are many of your fellow players out there anxious to act.

My suggestion is to copy the links of people you know are on your friends list and add them as comments to your original post on your personal Facebook page. That will make it much easier for you to find them so you can locate them when your next window is open to collect. This could also be useful to use to help keep track of what rewards you get from others.

When you first put your first link into the Heroes Rising Players thread, you might also think about copying the link to your league-mates or good friends directly through Messenger. Friends help out friends, right?

To everyone out there, good luck with the clean up efforts. If you have no clue what the clean up is all about, be sure to check out the Lore tab and read the newest story What we left behind: Part 1. Following is a link to it on the blog page These City Streets, as well.

Be sure to follow this amazing story. I know I will be.

I hope these small hints and guides will make it easier for you to succeed and get some great rewards from this event. I've already gotten a Dragon's Fury and a Strange Duck Power Card.

Art Post: Geo-Kinesis

The rocks obey your very thoughts. With one swift idea, boulders crush your enemies. A simple notion and you save miners from a cave in. It's when you got that headache that the north half of San Francisco lost power and...well, just stay away from big fault lines in the future.

Geo-Kinesis was a fun card to make. Nick had been asking me about doing more close-up images of the heroes in action. This left me with a bit of a problem, how many different powers can you display via a face? I had to stretch myself a little and I realized that I could play around with the background a bit more. Longer, body shots of heroes tend to lead art toward a forward power, showing energy shooting from their hands or eyes, or bullets bouncing off their chest. But, close up, you can see more what's going on behind them.

For this art I had a few things I wanted to approach. Not only was I looking at the close up face of the hero, but I wanted to change from the norm. Instead of a handsome, young hero, I went with a distinguished older hero. Perhaps not the standard person you expect to see in the comic book world. I want to remind the viewer of the art that the story of Heroes Rising is that people are suddenly being given powers, and not just handsome, strong youths, anyone. (Which is why an old lady is blasting lasers from her eyes at the villain in my own fiction.) I also attempted something unique for me, hard coloring and shading, which lends itself to comic book style of art. Finally, I love motion in art, especially for an action based story. The rock in the background is his weapon, it has to be in motion. The shadow beneath gives it lift while the generic background actually shows motion through color variation, size of pattern, and fading. This should look like the moment just before you are blindsided by a ten ton chunk of sandstone.

All in all, I hope you appreciate the various levels this art gives to the power that will grace your own hero in the game.
