Art post and New Power: Gone in a Snap

So, you are facing a charging enemy that's going to crush you against a solid stone wall, or you are falling to your death from the tower that villain just threw you from, or your in-laws have way overstayed their welcome. What do you do? Snap your fingers and...POOF...you are somewhere else instantly. All that is left behind is a misty cloud that soon evaporates, and perhaps some confused people.

Gone in a Snap was a fun card to create. It was one of those moments that I wanted to play around with different art styles to go with an idea I had. I wanted a hero power that could poof someone from one place to another. How convenient would that be? How powerful could that be? Also, it is a bit of a homage to the recent Marvel Avengers movies, only this is a good dissolve away, not a bad one.

The art was not that tricky...at first. I went with a generic looking hero. Simple figure, simple tights, simple color scheme. The difficulty began as I studied different techniques I might employ to make him look like he's evaporating. Eventually I settled on a blurring technique that allowed me to create the illusion of a clouding effect with half of his body. For the art, I wanted him to appear non-chalant about his instant transportation power. To him, it's like crossing the street in light traffic. For the background I went with a city style of feature so that he might be entering or leaving battle, it is up to the viewer to decide.

I hope you like the art and the power, it was a lot of fun to create.
