Preparations

Nova walked down the corridor of BADGE HQ in New York. It was quiet here, more than it has been ia long time. He hated the silence, for he knew why everything changed.

He stopped and looked into the room where Gar was placed. Seated near the large container was the same person who had been here almost every day. Chase silently waited for news on Jinn.

A robot approached. “Sir. We have reports back from all operatives.” There was a hesitation in the voice of this artificial person.

Nova quietly said, “go on.”

“No sign of Jinn. We have data from every country and even Antarctica. Nothing. If he is out there, we do not have the ability to find him.”

Nova continued watching Chase this whole time, wishing he had good news to tell her. Instead, he merely walked onward toward the docking area. “Is it ready?”

Unit 10915 quickly followed. “Yes. But I don’t see the purpose.”

“The purpose is clear. I know this will only help the situation, not only will it give heroes a way to keep sharp before Jinn arrives, it will give a much-needed diversion to the citizens of this planet.” Nova pressed a button, and the bay doors opened, revealing several advanced shuttlecraft.

“I understand that, sir. However, the world is in crisis. We have a horrible villain out there, ready to attack. Is this truly the right time?”

Nova pressed a button and activated the door to the shuttlecraft. “This is precisely the time. Come, I want to get this going as soon as possible.”

In the field near the BADGE HQ, a seemingly barren field broke open, and the shuttle lifted into the sky. The small craft quickly blazed down the East Coast of America, heading for a specific location. Finally, they reached a grassy cliff overlooking the ocean.

Nova and Unit 10915 stood on the edge of the cliff, the salty sea air sweetened by the spring breezes.

“Give it to me.” Nova’s held out hand was promptly filled with a computer tablet. He pressed in a security code and then activated it.

For a moment, nothing could be heard or seen out of the ordinary. Then a deep rumbling broke through. The water's surface became turbulent. Soon, lights shone from deep underwater. The top layers of a massive object breached the surface. Large panels of lights, huge protective walls, rows upon rows of seats. In the center was a monstrous field. Once it had left the ocean waters, the stadium rose higher into the sky, huge anti-gravity lifters carrying it. A forcefield that protected it from being inhabited by sea life encapsulated this immense arena.

“It’s time.” Nova quietly said.
