Christmas Story: Frozen Santa by Drift

Thank you Drift for entering the Christmas Story Contest. Here is their story...

(By Dan Peyton)
Over the bleak, cold arctic north a large BADGE landing craft buzzed through the gray skies. Gliding next to it was the stone hero Gargoyle, keenly watching the white land below.

Nova sat in the command seat of this large craft while his trusty robots managed the controls. He touched a comm device attached to his ear, “Anything yet, Gar?”
Gar answered, “Just snow. I...WATCH OUT!”
The proximity alarm went off and the whole craft lurched to the side as something slammed into them. The whole craft spun out of control, the three robots on the bridge rolled about like toys in a storm while Nova kept his firm grip on the command chair.
Nova looked out the front windows as they fell out of the sky and slammed into the ground. Waves of white powder spewed from either side of the ship as they plowed across the frozen north. After the sliding came to a stop, Nova shoved the emergency exit open and jumped out.
Gar landed next to him, "Sir, look!"
A demon approached,“Ah, Director Nova. It’s been a while.”
“What is it this time, Krampus? You and I both know you’re unable to get into Santa’s palace.”
Krampus resembled a man with shaggy hair all over his body, long demonic horns on his head, a long tail, and goat-like legs. He smiled at Nova with those fangs of his, “True, I could never get into that place. But, things have changed.”
“What are you talking about?”
Krampus answers, “These Morphons are spectacular little blessings, now aren’t they? Some humans have been turned almost into gods with them, and some into demons...depends on what they do with them I suppose. I, already being nearly a god myself, found them to be most delightful.”
Nova growled, “What have you done?”
“What I was always meant to do, punish the nasty little brats of this world. And with Santa out of my way, I think I can do my job unhindered. I think I will go eat at least ten thousand children, for starters. I believe that should make up for the lost years with Santa holding me back. Then, who knows? Maybe I’ll eat a few thousand more, all before Christmas.”
“No, you can’t,” Nova exclaimed.
Krampus laughed, “Who will stop me? Without Santa’s cheer, and morphons surging through my body, I am invulnerable. Now, I think I’ll start with a nice aged appetizer.” He jumped at Nova but was blindsided by a full-body slam from Gar. Without a second thought, Gar punched the demon hard enough to send him sprawling ten feet backward across the snow.
“Stay away, monster,” Gar commanded.
Krampus sat there, wiping a trickle of blood from his nose. “You’re an interesting foe. I’ll enjoy playing with you when I’m done. But, alas, I have other plans.” He vanished in a black puff of smoke, leaving only a cackle in its wake.
Nova let out a furious scoff, “This is serious.”
"What was that thing?" Gar asked.
"A demon who dines on little children. Since you can fly, head back to BADGE HQ and alert the leagues that Krampus must be defeated. I’ll stay here and call on any heroes who can help me find Santa and set this all straight. GO!”
Gar took to the skies while Nova headed back into his wrecked ship. He activated his comm, “Nova to all heroes, I need anyone who can help me find Santa, this is a matter of planetary emergency.”

The story of Frozen Santa
As it turns out Krampus had buried Santa in the snow 6 feet under. However, while Krampus was digging the hole he accidentally, with out noticing dropped some Morphons. The Morphons that were dropped in the hole that Santa was buried in slowly started to defrost the snow and ice that was surrounding him. Santa had a few tricks up his sleeve as well, he knew if he could just get enough room to move around he could use his special Rudolph red nose beacon and candy cane antenna to alert and call out to anyone willing to help.

Now, this time of year the hero leagues around the world are busy helping to control the holiday season activities, which include Black Friday shopping spree crazed maniacs, shop lifters, gangs that steal Christmas presents, grinch villains, and those who ate to many More-Fun snack bars and drank to many Hateraides. So, the closest help in the area at the moment is a colony of penguins.

As luck would have it Santa did manage to reach his Rudolph red nose and candy cane, all he had to do now is attach the candy cane to the red nose, press a few hidden buttons and the device was on and working. Beaconing away the bright red nose kept flashing a red light indicating the device was sending a signal out. Just a few miles away was the colony of penguins. The leader of the penguins was a mighty hero, even the strongest villains feared him. The leader always had devices near by to monitor activity. The penguin leader noticed Santa's beacon call on one of his devices. The leader sounded the call "Gather the troops, we must go on a mission to save Santa". The colony hurried and prepared the best they could to go on the mission. The leader gave the colony some Morphon infused sushi so they all could have some strength and power to carry out the mission.

They left the colony camp in search for Santa, they knew the approximate location of Santa and journeyed towards that direction. However, before reaching the location the colony found themselves in the direct path of a monster snowman. This creature was covered in ice and snow and has frozen breath power that can knock the wind right out of the penguins. The colony was hit hard by the shear force of power, but they did not retreat or give up, they new they had a mission to save Santa. Now, penguins are not known for being extremely powerful, but they do have numbers that they can use as an advantage. They stumbled clumsily as fast as they could to surround the snow beast. Using tactics, they surrounded him and harpooned him with many ropes many times across the legs and feet of the giant snow beast. The snowman's legs now were all tied up in knots from the many ropes that were harpooned at him. The beast struggled for a moment and fell hard to the frozen ground thundering a mild earthquake and snow flew everywhere all around the colony. The penguins knew this was their chance to escape and off they went scattering about leaving the snow creature behind them in the dust of snow.

The signal from Santa's beacon was getting louder and clearer. It was a sign they were getting nearer. Finally they approached an area that seemed partially melted and every few seconds a bright red flash of light beamed in the area. The penguin leader spoke up. "Team, this is it, this has to be where Santa is." The colony hurried to dig out and melt the ice and snow with the tools they had. Eventually, gradually they could see Santa and loosened enough ice and snow to get him free and help him out of the frozen hole that Krampus created.

With a frozen teary eyed red face, Santa spoke up and said "Ho ho ho, Thank you all so very much my friends for rescuing me and saving Christmas!" ... "Oh I could really use a steaming hot cup of Hateraide and freshly baked out of the oven Morphon cookies right about now!"
