Art Post: Controlled Rage

You live with the scent of calming candles, a warm bubble bath accompanies each day, your office at work must always keep Kenny G playing, all so that you don't loose it. You've always had a bit of a rage problem, but now that morphons arrived, a temper tantrum might result in your hair exploding into a blaze of fire. Keeping calm is a job now, except when you're ready to put down a villain.

Controlled Rage is a case where the art came before the idea. I started this piece with one idea in mind, then it changed, then that changed, and ultimately I left all those ideas behind. This left me with a bit of a problem, art without a name. Just about the same time I began to practice different methods of painting fire and decided to turn this persons hair into a ball of fire, and thus the idea was born. The way he looks like he is composing himself, yet at the edge of a fit of rage, it came together, Controlled Rage.

Why a defense card? Defense in combat relies on a steady head. In the case of super-powered people, calmness is not only a self defense, but also the defense against unintended injury to bystanders.

For the art, I decided to make the colors on him strong, his outfit and his hair all are bold, almost angry. The background is a night scene to help off set his bold colors. I used a city scene to help add energy to the picture.

I hope you enjoy the card and take a few notes from this heroes plight.
