Thank you Macaia's Daughter for entering the contest, here is her story:
I was asked to scour the public dock by Agent Nova. I wanted to find
the Legion itself and save my friend, but my godfather sided with
Nova. He still thinks of me as a girl to be protected, I think...
even though I've been battling and protecting for nearly two decades
now.
So, my journey in
New Amsterdam began on a foggy evening at the waterfront. No
thrilling edge-on-seat experience, I thought.
There was a group of
suspicious looking men loading boxes into a grey truck, but I stayed
in position. It wasn't that I was afraid, but I really had bigger
'prey' on my mind.
Suddenly to my left
a woman with short blonde hair appeared and rushed the truck. The men
pulled from their jackets a set of semi-automatic guns and shot in
her direction. I didn't even see how quickly she pulled out a
transparent-looking shield. Bullets ricocheted cleanly off of her
shield, and soon enough the thugs gave up their attempt and dashed
towards the truck's front doors.
The one headed
towards the driver's side was met by my fist. His body collapsed like
a tower of blocks.
The other one
screamed and dived into the water, his only real opportunity for
escape at that point. I hesitated just long enough to let him see how
good of a swimmer he was. Besides, I wasn't about to test out for
myself if the water was safe. Do you know what kind of pollution
these boats dump into the water? Not even ducks or seagulls were
lurking in the area.
"Good catch,"
yelled the blonde. She had a cute lightning-bolt shaped bang across
her forehead. It looked like it suited her... as far as heroism goes,
not everyone has the 'look' to match.
"Don't mention
it," I called back. I think I need to get me one of those
shields, perhaps.
Then I saw it. A
shape, green and dark blue, floating across the sky.
"They call her
Impulse," the blonde said. "Supposedly a ranking Legion
official. The Legion's got those stupid thugs doing grunt work to
help them take over the city."
She pointed in
Impulse's direction. "But it's them who are the real threat. Why
Nova's got the likes of us here..."
I sighed. "My
godpa would say something like how every bit counts, no matter how
small."
The blonde shrugged.
"Yeah."
I turned and started
to run.
"Where are you
headed?" called out the blonde woman.
"To get a
bigger chunk! See ya!"
My smile was broad.
I'd finally gotten my eyes on a Legion target, and hopefully this was
the first real step to rescuing the Ability Mage.
