“It looks like this could be another good round for us,”
Starmaster said to the other members of the Legacy of Spawn. “Thanks for
allowing me to join up with you for the Frosty League War.”
Krystal Fae smiled. “Don’t give it a second thought. You’ve
carried your weight.”
“Agreed. With these new rules for league formations, I think
the changes might have given us a better chance than we have had in some time.”
Ace, the league leader, said.
“There have been several shifts in the leagues due to the
rule changes,” JWStrangerF added. “Some have favored us, others… not so much.”
All members of the Legacy of Spawn nodded in silent
agreement. Fortunate as they had been so far, the final round would be very
challenging. A challenge that most other leagues would face in their own
divisions.
Ace clapped her hands together and rubbed them together with
eager hope. “Ooooh boy, if only we could magically boost ourselves to the level
where we could make the final even remotely exciting...”
Krystal Fae’s eyebrows nearly jumped off her face as she raised
them. “There are a few enchantments I can think of, but the risk of using them
would outweigh the benefits. Asking favors from Cthulhu is a very, very tricky
business. Imagine essentially asking Midgardsormr for his hand in marriage.”
“PASS!” Senaka, Maggie, and Pendragon said in unison, their
faces feigning sheer horror.
“I knew I hung out with all of you for a good reason,”
Krystal chuckled.
“The Avengers union of convenience with Colony 51 has proven
to make a formidable force,” Darkstar said. “Maybe if we all took up PAINguin’s
training regimen after last league war, we would be better prepared to face
them.”
“I still think he
should need to submit a urine sample or something,” S’henanigan mused. “I’d be
willing to bet a couple of his penguin bits have shrunk to the size of raisins.”
Starmaster fought hard to put that mental picture out of his
head, shaking his head with revulsion.
“It’s possible,” Krystal Fae said as she removed her glasses
to clean them, perhaps cleansing them of the same image. “I have to give him
credit. I thought I worked hard to improve my skills and standings, but he has
inspired me for the future, even if he only seems to have one thing on his
mind. Well, maybe two.”
“You could have let Chaz done that interview, you know,”
Starmaster said.
“He can find his own stories just fine,” Krystal said. “He
may be known as an up-and-coming talent, but I’m not ready to hand every story
over to him. Especially the good ones.”
“I hope there is a story out there with a surprise ending
for Frosty Wars,” Ace said. “All the predictions show that the WMD will take
first again in division one and the Avengers 51 will take the rest.
I hate an ending everyone sees coming.”
“All we can do is our best,” Krystal Fae said. “Remember
back when GW was a thing? Where are they now? Empires crumble eventually.”
“I wouldn’t have called the GW an empire,” Starmaster sad. “But
I get your point. You have to the best with the opportunity you have and wait
it out sometimes. Nothing lasts forever.”
“Sometimes even entire dimensions come to an end,” Krystal
said wistfully.
“At least we will have earned a silver medal this time
around. That’s a big improvement.” Ace said. “Better than a participation
badge.”
Starmaster thought on that. This would be his first silver
medal in a league war battle. Even though he didn’t want the change to happen,
he was going to come out better for it.
