The Leagues of Haunted Heroes

By Chaz Hamilton

With League Wars fast approaching, players will be making many decisions as they prepare to fight for Bronze, Silver, and Gold medals. The announcement of divisions is still several days away, but the fact that there will only be four leagues participating in each of the top four divisions has caused some ripples.

Divisions are created by averaging the levels of the members, except for the two lowest members, for the calculation. A league can have a maximum of 12 members and a minimum of seven. With only two potential wins per battle round, these numbers are pivotal to the games. Seven strong combatants will only give an opponents league the maximum attacking win score of 168 (this isn't counting when someone challenges an opponent and loses the fight) where a group with 12 members offers 288 potential wins to those who oppose it.

The make up, or build, of the team is crucial to how well success or failure is achieved. Sheer numbers isn't enough. If half of the team of 12 cannot get any wins in against the team of seven because of being too low of a level, unmatched power card values, or poor choices in gear, the round will go to the smaller league. For this reason during League Wars, you will see many fights go unfought. Why give an opponent a free win when you know there isn't a fiery demon-infested dimension's chance of defeating them?

Low level doesn't always mean that an opponent is a push-over, so don't be cocky. There are many, MANY players who have developed the ability to take out higher level characters by maximizing their potential. Morphon purchases, high friend counts, and filling every potential power card available can create a character capable of stealing what may seem to be a sure win.

In fact, there are multiple leagues who advertise they are looking for players willing to spend, taking advantage of the deals offered to group buys from leagues. For example, the Ghost Warriors-Mini Hell on Morphs has a motto of "Come Rest, while you Spend".

Spending extra or large amounts isn't a necessity, there are several leagues of Free or Budget players out there.

Knowing your enemies is a key advantage to fighting in a league war. This is often done by pre-League War scouting. Leagues right now are out their scouting and taking notes on the Who's Who of opponents. Close eyes are kept on threats to a potential winning scenario.

With four leagues in a division, each team will fight each other league in one of the three battle rounds. That will occupy the top 16 leagues. When there are eight leagues in a division, there is always the hope of going up against the lowest opponents for an easy(or at least easier) win.

If you look at active participants in the Events or Fight Clubs currently going on, you can find many potential players and leagues working to prepare. Mojo's Dojo is very active in Division Five. There motto says they are "Ready for Raids!", but that doesn't mean they won't show up on the orbital space station for League Wars. Several members of the Ghost Warriors and 5th Precinct alliances are also actively working to place in the top 15 to win an award. These two mega-multiple league groups put in battles in nearly every division during the Stellar Battle. Will they do so again? I fully expect that they will.

Many leagues are planning on waiting until the last minute to enter the league war, so it is uncertain right now which leagues will be participating, but smart players are paying attention to every move made.

I foresee that there will be a lot of activity in the lower divisions this league war. With the top five highest-level players in the game all belonging to WMD-Black Order, it seems opponents there will have a tough fight. The Horsemen and The Avengers contain many of the next highest-level players. Only powerful, confident leagues will want to enter that Thunderdome. Once again, level isn't the biggest factor in a league winning. Nothing is for certain until a operatic diva bolts out a power ballad.

The first 5th Precinct player shows up in the 260 range, and after that, the field widens as a Psycho Squad team, the Demons of Sorcery, and CJs Heman Woman Haters Club make appearances. After that, the list continues to grow.

In the end, only the bold will step up to the challenge of League Wars: Haunted Heroes, and of those, only so many can claim the gold. Who will it be? In just over one week, we will know. Until then, my best wishes to all. See you on the field of battle.
